Firepower stat is currently meaningless because it rates the mech against some abstract 250 rating regardless if it's possible for that mech to even acheive a Firepower rating of 250.

Instead, it should be rating the mech against the maximum possible Firepower rating for THAT particular mech based on its hardpoints.

For example, hypothetically speaking, a mech with 1 energy hardpoint could only have a maximum Firepower rating of 10.6 and therefore it's Firepower rating should rated against that limit.

This would place Firepower stat in line with similar stats like Armor.

Either that or make armor globally rated as well so that the "power bars" on armor, firepower, heat, tonnage, etc. actually mean something.

Keep your voice down....your making far too much sense for PGI to understand. :)

Added poll, since non-poll threads get largely ignored.

Not that this one won't too, but...yeah

Better to make every stat rating based on a theoretical maximum across all mechs.

Tonnage out of 100, Armor out of 614, Speed out of 172 kph, Heat Efficiency out of 2.00, and Firepower out of 100 (it's possible to go higher on some builds, but they're essentially unplayable).

Yeah, some sort of consistency is in order; the way they have it now makes it very confusing.

I know why they wanted the power bar stats — it's supposed to give immediate visual information much like any other bar graph. This can be extremely helpful for new and experienced players alike to determine the mech's strengths and weakness at a glance.

However, the arbitrary nature of these stats makes them less meaningful. They need to be standardized.

Voted yes.

With one exception. Missiles should show Average damage as not all missiles hit every time.

Frankly, I think Firepower should be removed entirely. It encourages boating and alpha striking, both of which are tactics PGI has claimed they wish to discourage.

I'm not saying anything in this post about whether I like or dislike boating or alpha striking. But having a stat visible that basically measures these things and thus encourages people to focus on them is counter to PGI's stated intentions.

*Shrug* The Firepower stat is rather meaningless to me. I just use it to gage my Alpha Strike. The lower my Alpha, the higher my DPS (usually), while the higher my Alpha, the higher my Heat (usually). I don't particularly care whether it's on a scale of 5, 200, or 1,000; my familiarity with the weapons, Mechs, and game mechanics makes the scale rather irrelevant.

Voted Derp...yadda yadda because I can.

your firepower rating is your alpha strike damage.

A dps score like in smurfys might be nice.

I'm of the remove the firepower stat as it is pretty meaningless and some weapons just add to it in a weird way, well not some weapons just machine guns and flamers.

If I had to pick I'd like to see one or both of the following;
  • Now while I know that DPS is a standard now a days I'd like to see a damage bar that shows your damage potential over a 10 second period. Why, because it is unique and pays respect to battletech the original source material which deals in 10 second intervals.
  • 3 separate firepower bars, one each for energy, ballistic and missile, since I rarely alpha these 3 types together I'd prefer to see the potential of each on there own.
