AC2s are quite common weapons for backing up larger ACs or for laying down supressing fire while targeting bigger weapons.
Got 2x AC2+1UAC5 in my BLR-1D for softening enemys up when ammo runs low and the match is near finish or the fight gets close I finish them with my 5 M-Lasers.

That is what do with my BLR-1D, but I use 4 med lasers. I find many heavies and assaults feel the ac2s and ignore the hits (i am too far away for lock early in the drop. I make sure i am hitting before using 5s or uac5s)as they are transitioning from position to position, then it dawns on them, hmm, what was that, dakka thunk? Get to cover!! U Ack 5!!!
Not that the uac 5 is so scary, but when speed shots of the 2s reaping pin point pain, then, dang dak a dak, watch the XL go BOOM!!! Leave it to the evil little Jenner to avenge him, by grabthars hammer
Nice change of pace mech

I'm sad. I brought macros back to the game but...

Quote

BUG : Can not rapid chain fire a weapon group when another weapon group is already being fired

It used to be that if a weapon group was already being held down for firing that the other group would be stuck and prevented to fire another weapon until the weapon in that weapon groups chain fire sequence had finished firing (or 0.5s passed by if a projectile weapon) and started cooling down. Now any number of groups can be held down and rapid fired with no such blockages.

March 4th for the fix. Source.

My 3AC2 SHD-2H is a monster at suppression fire. In Crimson straights I move into the island in the water and I can easily blanket the enemy formation with bullets at long range. In close range you can cause so much cockpit shake when burst firing the AC2s that your opponent won't know what to do and explode from sheer frustration.

The important part is knowing the role these weapons serve. They are far better at long range engagements than up close. Their real use is keeping an enemy formation hiding behind cover and not firing at your team.

I once dropped in a lance that had one other 2H with 3xAC2 config as well. The enemy team split to try and flank us. The two of us kept 4-5 enemy mechs huddled behind cover, on the low ground in Canyon Network while our team of 10 mechs deal with their team of 6-7. Once that was done, it was easy to mop up the suppressed bunch who didn't move for fear of being Dakka'd to death.

Nothing is funnier than seeing an entire formation hiding behind a corner scare of one mech spewing AC2 fire. Also, because of the fire speed they sometimes can't tell if it's one mech firing on multiples, and almost no one wants to walk out to double check that.

EDIT: for the Canyon Network drop, we spent 90% of our ammo, dealt 300+ Damage each. Because we spent so much time shooting the ground around those guys to keep them in hiding. We didn't deal much damage, but our actions made our victory inevitable.
