About a decade ago in another game, someone I knew was having heated arguments with other players and was confronted on his assumption that everyone played as he did.

So he openly asked how other players used the game and was surprised at the results.

I thought it would be interesting to do the same here hence the topic title.

Me, I used to play when I could as long as possible. Then sometimes I alternated with other games during the time I could.
Now I login about 1/3 to 1/2 of a week to take certain Mechs I am Mastering (5 right now, soon to be 2-3 more), use them until I get 1 victory in each to gain the daily x2 bonus per Mech then leave.
Except today, due to the free day of Premium Time, I am trying to maximize that.

I'm currently on my MW:O period.

So I play it alot, but I've made multiple break from it.
Leaving and coming back a few month after to see how the thing is going.

The same for the other free to play like World of Tanks or War Thunder.
And there's also mixed period for me when I switch from time to time during the day.

Every day for the last 2 years.

I play for at least an hour, or just sometimes tinker in the mechlab.

Took a vacation to DayZ for a week in Feb 14 with Tekadept, but back on everyday since.

Regretfully Tekadept and Mycrus have both uninstalled MWO after many, many, many, S.M.A.R.T. goals from PGI were not achieved.

Like my first wife, it is my first love, and it will always be part of me.

"I can't quit you."

My Dark obsession, my MWO.

Great topic BTW

I usually get 2 nights a week to play and get in a few solid hours of mech action. I don't get to play as much as I would like so it keeps me hungry for more. Outside the game, I also do a lot of tinkering on smurfy and other mwo related stuff (forums, watching some streams while doing other stuff, etc)

I took a couple months for a break when ES:O game out, when I found out how crappy that game was (if you think the devs are bad about this game, seriously check out ES:O) I came back here.

I alternate games so I don't get too burned out. (i.e. from people thinking conquest is assault and that everyone should rush to their deaths)

I cycle through mechs that I have not mastered, but with Clan mechs, I don't think I'll go back to Inner Sphere ones anytime soon.

I furry mech ERP for about 6-8 hours per day and then maybe do a few matches afterward.

I play when I have nothing better to do. This is the only game I play (barring nostalgia trips to old RPGs), so when I have an hour or two spare it's time to get my mech-fix.

Love the game, love the lore. They'll have to seriously **** the game up to stop me playing. It's just too fun.

I am on Mwo as much as possible. I don't really play much other games anymore. Just maybe my xbox one maybe once in a while. But I have been playing Mech for 20 years now.

Mostly as weekly random entertainment, almost like a webcomic. I browse the forum/patchnotes and see what new things they throw at us. Then I tell my friend who happens to work in the same office (he's a software architect, I'm a software developer and designer). Then we both laugh.

Every few months or so I climb into my good old Trebuchet, kick some metal ass and give another friend and his Awesome a bit of company. Then I ragequit again for a couple months because the UI is wasting my time, with no improvement in sight.

Spoiler

Made me LOL, me too. I never played TT or read any of the BT novels, just played the video games. So my knowledge of BT Lore is very limited. I have the big picture about the Clans, IS, Kerensky, etc. but I don't know details, so I won't argue lore. I'd be the proverbial "witless" warrior in a battle of words.

As far as the game goes, I play 1 or 2 hours (sometimes more) a night on average 4 or 5 nights a week. On the rare Sat or Sun, I may play 6 hours in a day if it's bad weather. Usually outside working or riding my MC.

I used to play nearly every day for 1 to many hours. Over the last year this has tapered off until closer to an hour on patch weeks. The Clan mechs have gotten me playing quite a bit this week again, and probably for a week or two more, but then I'll crawl back into my hole to wait for CW and amuse myself with Forum Warrior Online.

It's the only online game I play, who has the time :-)

Sometimes I put in a break for a week for a single player game

Just wish premium time would clock down only when I'm actually logged in

With MWO (as with most games for me) I go through an obsessive period where I play every night, and sometimes in the morning before work. I spend every free moment at work (lunch breaks, etc.) or between classes reading and discussing on the forums, etc.

For this game that lasted until about a month after launch. Now I play about 2-3 nights a week, and generally spend more time on my unit's forum than this one. I took a bit of a break due to computer issues, which was probably good, as I came back refreshed, so to speak.

I usualy play with a group and, unless the group is after a specific set of Mechs, I focus on one mech at a time until it is finished basics or mastered, if I am having a loosing streek I will go back to a fast Mech (Spider, Firestarter, Jenner or Cicada) for a few matches to recover.

I have tried the earn the 1st victory bonus XP then switch to diferant mech tactic that many people use but I tend to do porely until I have had a few games in a mech to get used to its handeling, e.g. if I am used to playing a Spider for 3 games and I switch to a Cicada I need 1-2 matches to adjust to the Cicadas handeling before I can use it to its full potential, this is a much worse problem if switching from a fast mech to a slow assult

usually play a decent amount (5-8 hours) between thurs/fri. may pop in for a couple matches weds/sat to try and get my 2x in for unmastered mechs. if i'm really on a bad run i'll break out one of my "good-ish" mechs and try to make up for it. i just finished battlemasters to where i want them (not crazy about assaults so just basiced two of them to be able to elite the one i like).

still have shadowhawks (which i never realized i didn;t finish mastering) one of my jenners, a couple Locusts (all of which are pretty close now) then either try to get my Blunderbolts through basics at least or start buying griffins, or two more cents to complete the set seeing how i only have the free one we got a while back. had been saving cbills for the mentioned then forgotten, all but declared vindicators from months ago but they're starting to pile up now ;)

I try to play a few nights a week to keep from getting rusty. I don't have a lot of time to play games with a full time job and two young kids, and I play a number of other games at any time as well so my time is pretty limited. There are some nights I only get maybe 2 or 3 matches in, but I always prioritize mwo as one of my top games.
I guess I could be called a casual player, and I don't mind that label. I'd rather be considered as a second class player because of my mediocre ELO and lack of matches played than burning myself out and getting stressed over petty things.
