Currently using 6xLLs.. debating whether it might be worth it to buy four PPCs to use instead. I wish there was a try before you buy! Lol.. anyway, do you think it might be worth it? The tonnage is the same.

Doesn't quite cover the "try before you buy" bit though.

I haven't tried 6LL or 4PPC, I'm still running the 6MPL it came with (With AC10 and LRM15 backup)
340std engine, saving up for a bigger one though.

Yeah.. I've been doing pretty well. I love the energy hardpoints in the arm so far, been using the AS7-D for two days now.

AC20+6xML, STD375. Make it fast, get in people's faces hard.
AC20+2xLL+4xML. Slower, but with some medium range reach.

More than 4 LLs tends to be too hot to really be useful. Even 2 make you pretty hot when you still have the AC20 to worry about.

Yeah that's what i'm noticing, shutting down alot with 6LLs. I'd hate to ditch the 400xl engine..

XLs and Atlases do not mix. Unless it is a very long-range build with no back armor, forget it. People aim for the side torsos, and will blow you up way too fast.

I've been using 4 ML, 2 PPC and AC 20 with a pretty big STD engine to great success. Can run hot with all weapons firing but pretty devastating. I've got almost 24 hours logged in the BH. Fun mech.

I like to drive that one http://mwo.smurfy-ne...2afaaa7b88c70fb

It is fast, cool, got mere firepower and it's ******* intimidating

It was painful I will admit (that engine is currently sitting on my Battlemasters) but your ability to survive skyrockets after dropping it. (As said above, Atlas mechs are not XL friendly)

Prolly the hardest part of giving it up was losing the extra engine heatsink slots....

I finally settled on 2 PPCs, AC/20, 4 MLs with a STD350 for my BH. It's quite hot, but outside 90m it punches as hard as anything in the game.

6 LLs can really rack up damage, but lack the knockout punch of the above build. I would think 4 PPCs would just be too hot, not to mention worthless up close.

assuming your running it currently with the XL400, 6LL with 21DHS, you can drop down to a std350 and still fit the same number of heatsinks. not a lot of speed to give up for a lot more survivability.

the fact that the mech would cost what it costs regardless of the equipment it comes with actually works out in your favor btw. since its MC / ton, the XL400 didnt really cost anything extra, and you can either sell it to pay for the std350 OR run it in a battlemaster.

Id rather that than have to fork over cbills for an XL engine that you need to run a hero mech.

Boar's Head

I've had some fun running mine with 4mlas + 2flamers + AC20. I stripped the endo out and stuffed a std350 with 20 DHS in it, so it runs nice and cool. I run the flamers on chain-fire which lets me cool-down while still pouring the heat on another mech. Good times.

Been playing the past two or so hours with the LLs, they don't really pack any "punch". I like to blow people's components off with projectile weapons. I will mount a STD engine because in the last 4 games I lost my torso.

EDIT: Above^ I've never tried flamers. That looks like a fun build.

What do you guys think of this? I figure i'd ask before I buy since it is a big purchase. I'm just trying to justify the mech purchase with the 400STD, why throw in anything smaller if the 400 is what makes this mech special.

6xML
1xSRM6 w/ Artemis +4 tons ammo(no space for dhs)
400STD

Upgrades: Ferro Fibrous, Endo-Steel, and DHS.

Will the repair bill be high? (not sure if repair bills still exist, they did a while back)

std engine, 2LL, ac20, lrm20.

might switch out the lrm and up the LL to ppc's and maybe add ml or srm6.

@Atlas
I don't know that I'd spend the C-Bills for a STD400. 71 kph is nice and all, but not at the expense of firepower.

Oh, and there are no repair bills to worry about.

I had to look I have been running my BH with 2x ERPPC, 1X10LRM and 1XAC10. I over ride and blow up a lot but thats another story. I seem to die as much or less than any other atlas I have even with the XL engine. I pop more with this one from heat.

Biggest issue I've had with this mech - it's the same as with any of the Atlases. The side torsos go super-fast, so you need to kinda plan for having half your firepower knocked out quickly. While I'd initially felt that running a more "balanced" build with PPCs and an LRM rack would work best with my playstyle, I changed that out in short order to something closer to what I run on my DDC (2LLs, AC20, SRM6 w/3MLs). I opted against putting the fourth ML in to get an additional heat sink instead - and that's seemed to work pretty well. It's essentially the same build I run on my Misery. Punches like a mule, and if you lose that right side (as you're almost guaranteed to have happen), you've at least still got a decent amount of firepower with what's in the other side... It's still a fun mech though truthfully, I prefer to run my Misery given a choice. The higher arm hardpoints make life a LOT easier.

Yeah screw it, it's not a very good mech for me. My AS7-D gets me 10x the kills. I went ahead and purchased a Muromets and will mount three UAC/5 on it.
