The Raven 3L and the way you would play a normal light are very different.
Most lights are the first responders to counter base caps, base cap themselves, flank and dog fight other lights to keep them off the heavier 'mechs.
3Ls, though, are best suited for this, and are very good in Skirmish in particular:
ER Raven Harasser
ED: Feel free to move one ER to the torso; it's setup like that so that both lasers hit the same precise point, but it does mean you can lose all your firepower on your arm.
What you want to do is hang with the main force and provide them ECM coverage, fading in and out to fire your lasers
as often as possible. You will begin racking up TONS of damage doing this, on top of benefiting your team with ECM. It's
very bad at fighting other lights - the bigger your target, the more powerful you'll be against it, really.
Just remember to always keep moving and hang with bigger, scarier threats so the enemy focuses on that Jagermech you're covering and not you. It's very hard even in serious games to counter this.
Long story short, the Raven will
never out Jenner a Jenner, or beat a Spider for mobile ECM coverage. But in this role, hanging with the group and providing a non-stop long range attack while providing ECM, it's absolutely awesome.
