If I run Streak SRM, will any of those 2 modules benefit me more than the other when I want to keep a target locked if I can't track the enemy all the time? You know sometimes a rapid turn and I lose it and cannot fire my Streak until I recenter the target.

I would think maybe Target Decay because description says it keeps trackable a Mech when leave line of sight... while 360 is only about target information of a Mech.

Thanks

IIRC Target decay is good for LRM Boats. So it depends on your build.

I haven't run that module on streaks, but in theory I would say the 360.

With streaks once vision is gone the lock is broken it takes time to reacquire. I suspect being able to keep the sensor lock regardless of vision would mean the lock holds allowing you to torso twist etc.

Target Decay always. 360 is useless 99% of all combat situations.

Ok well... I read this thread and it looks like neither will do what I want, keep a weapon lock.

^ That thread is not correct. Target decay is very useful for streaks. You should buy it any ways as it is one of the must have modules.

I'd bring Sensor Range first of all, as it helps against ECM mechs (it pushes back the range at which you can start to lock on). I would then go with Target Decay, if only because in a pursuit situation in an urban environment it can be invaluable to have those extra few seconds to see exactly where the enemy is going, and to retain lock when he's ducking around a building (if you're fast enough you can get LoS again before you lose your lock).

I take both. When you're twisting and turning it helps to still have the lock. Firing behind your back for instance.

Target Decay>360

Thats the general rule for Streaks. You should get both but target decay lets you keep locks longer than 360 in your average combat scenario. Especially if you pair streaks with other weapon systems which will mean you want to focus on keeping stuff infront of you anyway.

360 doesn't help streaks. If your target passes behind you, 360 only allows you to keep it on your mini map (what PGI refers to as "radar lock"). It does not allow you to keep missile lock on the target (what PGI refers to as "weapon lock"). You'll have to re-acquire missile lock after the target passes behind you whether or not you have 360.

Target Decay does help streaks. Being able to retain missile lock for 3.5 seconds even after the target passes out of LOS makes it much easier to chase and repeatedly fire missiles at an enemy light. You can retain your missile lock when they run over a hill or around a corner, at least for long enough for you to follow them and regain LOS.

Non missle mech - adv sensor range, 360 target retention, adv seismic.

360 is for SSRMs, you won't keep the lock, but you will retain the target. Target Decay has no effect on SSRMs that I could tell, pretty good for LRMs though.

Missle mech - adv sensor range, target decay, 360 target retention.

Non missile Mech - Seismic, Sensor Range, misc (arty strike, target info, coolant flush, whatever)
Missile Mech - Sensor Range (and carry BAP too), Target Decay, Seismic

In that order.

360 is pretty close to useless. In fact the only use I can come up with for it is to help the other missile boats on your team keep firing at the target you're brawling. But it doesn't directly help you at all.

Target acquisition is instant, though, so what's the point of retaining the target when it's behind you? As soon as it comes back into view you instantly regain the target, so it really doesn't matter whether or not you retained the target while it was out of sight.

It works the same for both, it's just harder to tell with Streaks due to all the high speed maneuvering that's probably going on while you're trying to do your testing.

..I guess I had a different understanding of how 360 worked. durrr.
and to think I thought it was working in that way. Must be substituting my own reality again.

Your missile locks against ECM mechs also linger longer as they travel outside BAP range. That makes a huge difference when hunting and killing them.

Target Decay is a must have for LRMs and SSRMS. After that Sensor Range. 360 is good for scouts who want to lock a target and run. For LRM boats Target Info Gathering is good to see if your opponent has AMS quickly do you can decide whether you want to chain fire or alpha. Seismic gives you info that would otherwise be unavailable. This is a powerful advantage in almost every situation.

360 is great. If you do hit and run while spotting for other 'Mechs. Otherwise, it is ok. Decay would be better for a streak boat, but both are nice to have on for hunting lights.

It also depends on the terrain. I would argue that target decay is better on maps with lots of buildings or similar terrain which will break your los ofthen.

Advanced sensor range gives you an extra 50m of effective range against ECM mechs, to 250m, allowing to use streaks to almost their full range even when an ECM is involved. BAP and Adv Sensor Range are my first picks on any streak based mech.

Advanced Target Decay is a nice have so that you don't lose the lock even if you lose the target behind some obstacle for a couple of seconds. Obvious #2 module to have.

I used to bring 360 with me before, but it's effect is so miniscule it's better to just bring an Artillery and Air Strike instead of it if you have more than 2 module slots to use.
