I am trying to accumulate the basic skills for 3 mechs to advance to the second tier of skills but I can't remember which variants (that I have used and sold) I have the skills for, with the old UI you could view skills for unowned mechs but I can't see that you can with this new UI. Does anyone know how to?

No, I had actually had a problem with this recently. I had in the past bought a cda3c and finished basics on it, however this weekend when decided to finish mastering the cicadas I bought 3m and when finished basics showed only 1/3 done. Now I knew this to not be true and was irritated as I thought I lost my xp in the ui2 conversion. So I repurchased the mech and all the xp was still there but was aggravated that had to purchase that mech a second time to access the xp.
So submitted a ticket to pgi and they confirmed that yes all previous xp on mechs sold is there but due to a bug I would have to repurchase said mech to get the xp showing again. I have responded to this as they thought it closed but I don't feel the same as I want either cbill or mc reimbursement for having to purchase the mech again just to get the xp to show. Just replied today and am awaiting response.

Yeah it does show in stats, I had sent imagery of that fact when submitted ticket. And as such I figured it was there that's why repurchased the mech, because it may be months before they fix that (their reply to ticket did say a fix was on the way) and I wanted to master the cicadas during the x2 xp weekend. So it is my opinion that they need to reimburse that amount as it is no way my own fault that they cannot code as we are not in beta any longer. If we were still in beta I would not even bother ofc...as beta is supposed to buggy.

So I can't access the second tier if I have 3 variants (that I achieved basic skills and sold before the UI2.0).
Ok I guess I'll just have to wait for the fix.
Btw the mech I want second tier skills is an Atlas so it will be very slow to rebuy them.

Even in the old UI, you could not spend mech skills if you sold the variants. No matter wht you will need to re-buy your mechs to complete your skill tree.
The only thing that is different is the inability to see which skills were previously bought, and how much XP is sitting in that mech's total.
