Uh, kick butt?

The Misery and the Dragon Slayer are both best-of-chassis or nearly so.
I don't have any stalkers yet, but want them.

Pretty Baby is an Awesome, with all the flaws inherrent to them, and the paint-scheme feels like a poor-mans Firebrand to me.
Dragon Slayer is a Victor, and I don't know what it is about them, but I'm absolutely awful in a Victor. Just can't get along with em.
Misery is.. I've not really heard much about either way tbh, but I like Stalkers.
Heavy Metal is a Highlander, which I know nothing about, and haven't really been interested in so~
La Malinche is? Banshees are... iunno, not interested in them.
Boars Head is supposedly the worst Atlas?

So It's really down to the Misery.. but I'm not sure what I'd do with it, nor its reputation... or if I'd like it.

If I do, I'd be tempted to whack an LBX10 in there though.

<shudders>

;)

I love Stalkers. Honestly, the only assault I really enjoy. Misery, 3F, pick one more that's not the 4N and away you go...

LBXs are amazing. :)

I was going for the H, M, S, but the M is now the Misery, and the S may well become the F(C)...

The S being the F with twin AMS and an XL I can put in a light... but then the FC has a bigger XL and is currently a LOT cheaper than an S.... (even though I'd be grinding the S, not MC... still...)

Choices are hard

Right now isn't the best time to learn how to pilot a Victor, they've been nerfed too much. The Victor turn rate isn't better than that of an Atlas, so you can't easily engage and maneuver. If you are already good and efficient at killing things, this isn't a major issue, but if you aren't, you may be SoL.

Even before, I've tried the Trial one several times, and it's one of the worst performances I've ever had each time ><

K/D and W/L of 0 and Average Damage per match of 3....
It is quite literally the worst mech (for me) I've ever piloted. :)

Picked up a Misery and F(C) now, lets have some fun with those!

With the current state of the Highlander? Really? It feels to me like it gets the worst of the Highlander and Victor's characteristics right now. (Exactly the opposite of the Dragon Slayer which gets the best of both)

I personally still would vouch for the Heavy Metal.

I only jump as part of maneuvering and don't poptart.
I made a build to go up against 6 PPC Stalkers. It works against meta cheese. It works in blitzkrieg rushes and it works in head to head fights against Clanners.

It's true, the build could be recreated with an Atlas but it won't be nearly as efficient. The very way the Highlander moves, the compact yet boxy design of the body, the very nature in the jerking arms... all serve to soak and spread damage on a charging 330 engine Highlander in ways that makes lasers and DoT weapons spread far more than they should.

The only thing remotely better to use against a Clan mech is an AC/20 while in a Highlander; and having a 733C solves that for you.

Heavy Metal fun.
The first vid of the design.

Build or it didn't happen. :)

I'm intrigued, I admit I have trouble thinking of HGNs as anything but pure shooters (and for that, isn't the BNC much better these days?)

Was it the Victor 9S Champion edition? The loadout isn't the worst, but it can be better.

Honestly before getting into a Victor one should try a Cataphract 3D instead. At this time it is much more agile and can carry interesting loadouts. Plus the hitbox isn't bad. If you like the CTF 3D then you can consider a Victor.

I still like my Victors but I've had to massively change their loadouts recently.

The Misery is great, so is the 3F: 2PPC 2LPuls is really good for pugging.

Against my better judgement, I may pick up the Death's Knell and the Arrow. The DK, because I want to drive the fastest mech in the game for sh!ts n giggles, and the Arrow, because I want a mini JM6-DD. I'm just not sure how viable either mech is in the current environment.

For the arrow, do 6mguns and 2 standard PPCs, with 1 JJ recommended just to climb up hills.

You'll enjoy it.

Trying to narrow down a shopping list, but I've been playing my clans almost exclusively (still haven't elited everything yet...). Hell, I still have the plastic wrapping on my DDC that I bought on C-bill sale a couple weeks back.

Any advice on the following? Must have's or good value with a particular engine? I haven't started any of the following chassis except the Treb.

Oxide
X-5
Arrow (more of a curiosity, I've seen many and they seem to do bad)
Loup De G (my first mech was a trenchbucket and I mastered my 7M. Don't judge)
Jester
Firebrand
Jester
Dragon Slayer
Misery (kind of)

Own the following

Ember <3
Ilya--still love, but seems to be outclassed these days :'(
Huggin (mistakes were made)
Daishi pack

You listed Jester twice.

Firebrand. "Rifleman" If that doesn't mean anything, it's just a Jager that can do PPCs + AC/5s better than other Jagers.

Jester is a fun mech but that's about it. You can either use it as a jumping K2 or a C1 with extra energy hardpoints in the arms. With the jumpjet nerfs it's completely lost any ability for vertical combat.

X-5, if hero mechs could be pay to win when compared to their fellow chassis members, this is probably the closest thing you'll ever get. Superior to the Cicadas in nearly every way its only penalty is the exclusion of the AMS hardpoint. Be weary of streaks. I like combining an ER PPC with a couple of LRM-5s.

Arrow: Default loadout isn't cutting it against Clans. Great and devastating if the enemy is half dead as a clean-up mech. Does great against IS. The speed of larger Clan mechs make the Arrow a virtually worthless design. Remixing it with some other weapons should yield some great results. Someone favored 5 MGs, an LB-10, 3 ML and seemed to do very well.

Dragon Slayer, if you like poptarting it's a great mech. If you don't (like me), it's absolute garbage. In reality it's basically a Protector/Heavy Metal at 80 tons. I feel Protectors simply do it better.

Misery / Boar's head are essentially the same thing with a 15 ton difference and lots more frontal surface area on the Boar's Head. Misery has more side surface area. Avoid getting flanked and you're just fine. I've had a Misery go up against a 4 ER PPC + Gauss Atlas RS and a 4 PPC Stalker on Tourmaline (shortly after the other Misery with me took the brunt of all the attacks). With them already hot, I was able to tank blow after blow after blow, stripping both side torsos off of the Stalker and one side torso off of the Atlas. In the blow that would have determined the fight, the damn stalker took the shot and the Atlas got me.

Oxide... Think Huginn with two more launchers and no jumpjets and no ballistics. Wait for a hitbox overhaul.

This seems like a difficult loadout to use effectively. You have to stay >90m away to use the PPCs, but the machine guns start to lose potency at >120m. I don't like having only a 30m range that I'm able to utilize all my weapons at max capability.

I would think that 2 large pulse lasers would work better.

FIFY. Don't get me wrong; I love my X-5. But it is wholly outclassed by the 3M due to its ability to mount ECM. The X-5 is in dire need of an increase in tube count. Restricting each missile hardpoint to two tubes really limits the effectiveness of the X-5. I wish PGI would give it 20 tubes per hardpoint like they did on the Huginn (or at least 10).

ECM is a defensive measure, not an offensive one. An ECM can't kill anything, it can't fight, it just consumes weight.

The X-5 could use enlarging tubes, but so long as it's twin tubes, you have straight firing pinpoint BULLETs for missiles.

SRM-6s without spread?
Heck yeah.

For only 1.5 tons, it's a pretty damn effective defensive measure. Most anyone would sacrifice 1.5 tons of offensive capability to carry it.

Anyway, I'd love to run this build if PGI would increase the tube count on the X-5. As it currently stands, I usually just run the common 4x ML and 2x SSRM2 build.

X-5

The idea here is that you can effectively snipe with the PPCs and then close the kill with the 6 mguns.

Never use pulse lasers btw, they are broken in this game (statistically compared to alternatives like an IS large laser, ER large laser or PPC)

I'll agree that pulse lasers are generally inferior to non-pulse, but I do think that the IS MPL and LPL are occasionally useful, usually when you are limited in hardpoints but not in tonnage. And some people just enjoy the wub wub sound. :)
