A concept designed to increase mech longevity, reduce the effectiveness of pinpoint damage, and improve the effectiveness of walling/tanking support in MWO:
  • When an armored location is hit by all weapons except lasers, all damage dealt to that location is decreased by 15% for five seconds as ablative fragments absorb hits. Lasers ignore this damage reduction.

Right. DPS weapons. I got so excited I forgot to imagine the effect on those.

Too direct a solution to avoid the "artificial solutions are bad" crowd.
