This isn't a new suggestion, but I just wanted to add some details that might make the gamemode more fun and interesting.

Basically what we could have is that mobile base that we already have in Assault trundles along a preset path until it reaches the finish line. However, we shouldn't do something as simple as "attack truck for 1000 damage and you win"

Instead, If you do X amount of damage you shut the truck down for repairs for Y seconds. This would allow players to delay the defending team from reaching their victory destination and force them to defend a potentially exposed area.

Once you kill all defenders or there are no defending players within 500 meters of the truck, it becomes fully vulnerable. Attackers then have to kill it off before it can escape.

For the defenders to win, their escort either has to reach the finish line or they have to kill all the attackers.

To balance this out for the defenders, you would have one or two repairable turrets on your truck similar to what we have in Assault. You might consider giving the Truck an ECM ability. You could even give it some sort of passive radar like an advanced Seismic that transmits to the defenders radar.

I think this could be a really fun game mode especially for the upcoming Community Warfare. Attackers would devise ambushes at vulnerable points. Defenders would have to carefully scout ahead to find these ambushes and know when to counter attack without letting their escort die.

this game desperately needs PvP based missions.

The game definitely needs mission-based games. One can only handle so many PVP matches until it gets...monotonic.
Only problem is, would PGI even try this, or just shrug it off, like all the other suggestions we've been giving?

You mean, like the Skirmish and Attack/Defend modes, LPL/MPL/flamer/NARC/LRM buffs, tonnage limitations, private lobbies, and base defense turrets that they are in fact putting or have put into the game?

Normally I'm against escort/convoy missions in any genre, but this is probably the first iteration that, with your additional ideas, actually make it sound interesting. Definitely sounds like something fun.

Putting. That's the key word. "Putting". Look how long it took them to do so. With them emphasizing so much on the UI and Community Warfare - then lack of any progress shown, followed by a lack of communication with the community, THEN delay + no status reports on things...

A lot of suggestions we had back in beta are just NOW being addressed, after two years.

Personally, my faith in PGI is limited at best.

convoys with myrmidons and such attached would be cool.

PGI is really going to have to step up the quality & pace of development if they want to keep up in the future gaming marketplace.

They haven't even managed to get DFA & collisions in yet, basic features of every mechwarrior game & novel in the past. Or blowing buildings up! or statues stopping your mech...

Keep your expectations low, and keep your wallet closed until they start delivering quality gaming content.

Sounds very similar to how wolf:et and Quake wars did the MCB.

In wolf:et it was usually a tank, but was also a truck on a few maps (goldrush had the tank in first phase to blow the bank doors, then 2nd phase was load the truck with gold then escort it etc. ) The tank/truck would only move when it had health and when a player was near it. (5-10m was max distance I think)

Defending team could disable it via dmg. (MG's did no dmg to it afaik, only mines grenades and panzerfaust/zookas did dmg)

Attacking team had to repair it when it was dmged with an engineer until it finally got to its ending spot. (which could either win the match on some maps, or as explained above, move the map to the next phase by blowing a door or something)

In Quake wars they changed it up. It was now an actual MCB that someone had to get in and drive.

Basically same principal tho, enemy team can disable it, other team has to repair it until you get it to the set destination.

In MWO as you said basically, a timer would have to do as we have no "engineer" mechs so to speak. MCB gets disabled and it stops for 1 or 2 mins before moving again etc. (provided allies are near it or it shouldnt move imo.)

Nice touch to escort tho imo as also like you said OP it basically removes the "do 1000dmg to this truck / MCB etc and it dies and you win." which ends up making the mode a little more fun imo.....and probably more workable.

It does sound interesting. Normally I am not a big fan of escort missions (one of the biggest cliches in videogames), but this game type sounds promissing.

The big issue is the lack of respawns. I'd change things up a bit and throw in three MFBs. Each lance drops with one, and only one needs to reach the end of the road. Maybe even have them all start out together but take three different routes to three different exfiltration points. The attackers could take a bunch of slow assaults and try to split up and cover all three approaches, or take a swarm of faster mechs and try to hit each one in sequence, or mix it up and have small delaying forces while the bulk of the company concentrates on a single target, but having three different convoys moving simultaneously would really shake up the tacitcal situation and make the defenders a bit more competitive.

I actually hate these mission types. But that IS a good reason to have em. So I can grind em till I like em!

I think this mission type sounds like a blast. But it would need specially designed maps for it. An ai convoy with a predefined path would be far too easy to kill at range with poptarting, lrms and whatnot. Unless it had super uber hit points which would probably just turn it into a straight up mech fight. I think there are ways to do it but would need heavy testing for balancing on every map implemented. I hope to see a variation of this game mode, I just don't expect to see it in under 18 to 24 months.

A player controlled, guided, or driven convoy would be cool. But I think a VIP mech might be more likely.
