The image in the original post here pretty much sums up my issues with the new UI. Look at all that grossly wasted screen estate showing the same icon for the 70 different engines (visible, there are more).

Yes! This!!

I already have glasses and it doesn't help.

my issue is 1\2 font size and 1\2 the color of the icons and text on icons. The yellow ammo icons with white text are totally unreadable for me.

What is this, a UI for ants?!

At least on my monitor these tiny posts have text that's unreadable not because it's small, but because the size turns the characters into a mess of subpixels so it looks like the letters have little rainbow halos. This nicely illustrates that size is only one factor of readability.

The problem I have with a lot of the UI elements in UI 2.0 is that even if the text is an OK size the color choices frequently make it painful to read, especially the white-on-green just above the arrow in the screenshot in the OP. The red on black in the engine grid is awful too, again for reasons totally apart from size. I'm admittedly using a crappy monitor right now, but it's still harder than it needs to be on my expensive IPS, just not actually painful.

The in-cockpit monitors made me laugh out loud the first time I saw them. At 1080p the thin font causes sections of letters to end up "between" pixels, badly garbling many of the letters.

I really, really hate all-caps labels, but I get the feeling those are never going away. I wish they would, though. There's a sizable pile of empirical evidence that shows all-caps to be attention-grabbing, but also objectively harder to read.

Forgot 4k monitor....I run 1920x1200 on a 27" screen and can't see the tiny text

I assume Russ runs his screen at 640x480

No, no, no. What Russ is trying to tell us there is that we are all losers for not having 4K monitors, because apparently they look perfectly legible on a 4k. Come on, you have an extra $4000 to drop on a monitor for a F2P game, right?

Be careful with what you say or they may start charging real money for the fonts.
Seriously, The fonts are fine?

I have to agree with this I cant edit my mechs I cant see them
and my zero button does strange things on the menus It is my push to talk for teamspeak very aggravating
I also cant see the hard points on a new mech I was thinking about buying so I cant buy a new one now.

We need an undo button for the ui very badly.

Great idea, 4000 MC for a readable font. Any takers? It's more useful than a golden boy!

I am the marketing leader of a major business. The last thing I would ever tell my customers is ''your concerns are invalid''. If one of my customers thinks they have a problem, then I do have a problem and I need to solve their perceived problem for them. That's how I retain customers. Because, if I don't solve their perceived problems, I won't have them as customers for long.

Honestly, I just do not understand how the leader of a company can ignore - insult, even - his customers in this way.

I hear you... it's crazy when you consider that many of their core customers are high functioning people with considerable disposable income and everything they do makes us not want to spend money on them...

I found a way to force the fonts in UI2.0 to become large enough to use. I've set the game at half my monitors's native resolution of 2560x1440 ... in other words, I'm now playing MWO at 1280x720.

However, that has significantly degraded the quality of the actual game. Here for example is a screen shot of what it's like to use heat vision on Frozen City.

I remain surprised that PGI aren't more concerned about this. I can't be the only person spending money on their game who uses a monitor bigger than 1280x720.

Sure, you can always lower the resolution until you can finally decipher the client text. For me, this wil result in one of two things during the game.

1. Black bars to the right and left of the screen, while the middle is horizontally compressed.

2. This:

Dear PGI, if changing fonts to something not headache-inducing or spiffy font scaling proves to much of a challange for you to introduce it in the next update, why don´t you just allow us to choose a different resolution in the client and another during the game?

Other games do that. It can´t be too difficult. It would be less than a elegant solution.

But I assure if you let people wait for too long because of something as basic as TEXT it will cost you $$$. In fact I hope it already does, so you are encouraged to come to your senses.

Everyone do yourselves a favor, and try setting your display to windowed mode, 1280x720 or 1366x768...

Notice how much more coherent and readable the UI is...

...then BLAST them for forcing high resolution players to fullscreen UI if we want the game resolution to match!

UNLINK MECHLAB AND GAME RESOLUTIONS NOW!!!!
