Yes, I know this will rankle QQ Nation that we dare spend money on this Illuminati run game, but you know what? Tweaking the whiners is part of the fun!

Anyhow..... rank what are, in your opinion, the top 5 Hero Mechs in MWO, ATM.

Mine?

1) EMBER
2) Ilya MURDERMETZ
3) Yen Lo Wang
4) Protector
5) Misery

I was shocked by how little the hardpoints have done for me on the FireBrand (so while nothing wrong, just nothing the cbill versions don't seem to do just as well) and don't own a Heavy Metal, hence their missing from my list.

The Ilya, up til a month ago was the clear cut winner. It's still my damage leader. BUT.... the EMBER? Little chipmunk of death! I hate Light Mechs, but it drives more like a Medium. It's like a pint sized ShadowHawk on a Methamphetamine bing! A kneecap seeking buzzsaw of fury! I have never had more fun in this game than since I got my Ember. Now I fly around the battlefield gnawing legs off the fatties then moving on....I feel kinda like one of these guys......

The Firestarter in general is so much fun I have a feeling they are going to nerf Slas somehow, maybe via ghost heat.

TBH at the moment I am only really using my Firebrand and other Firestarters, partly because they are so fun and partly because I want to grind them up before the nerf.

I think the Firebrand was great back when you could climb up hills easily. I could pepper enemies with AC/2 fire and drop back down, with llas for additional firepower and helping vs lights.

The Misery... was okay, but TBH even the Ballistic hardpoint is not enough to really make it stand out, power-wise, from the other Stalkers. It isn't really a fault of the variant itself so much as it is a result of the fact that the mech is so good. The recent nerfs to ballistics certainly didn't help, though.

The Yen Lo Wang... I've learned to just smile and nod when it comes up.

*Pats Bishop on the head condescendingly*

The Littlest Atlas Protector is kind of bland to me... It's not bad by any means, though...

Ilya definitely deserves it's slot, however. Even with the nerfs. ILYA DAKKAMETS FTW!

I think you are late for your 6 month check up...time for your YLW colorectal exam! :P

(Can't help it if there is a mech out there that actually rewards the better pilots, and not the ezmode metawhores)

As for the Protector.... it should be lackadaisical. And back before they fixed the CT, it was. But for some reason I do good in it. And TBH, the Orion is one of my favorite in game models (much better, IMO than Alex's concept, which was a little blobby and soft looking) That said, my odd ball ON1-VA with an AC10, XL340 and 2 ASRM4s is my favorite Heavy mech.

Misery I like ....because I like ballistics, always have. And it looks cooler than the other Stalkers. I would probably play better in a Heavy Metal, but I don't own one, and refuse to metarape.

Ember
Boars Head
Dragon Slayer
HM
Muromets

I would have picked the Protector but it just seems to be lacking any incentive to use it.

I am surprised the DragonSlayer didn't make my cut, but I think the right side bias to the weapon, while ideal for the Meta, doesn't suit my style as much. I really like having dual energy in the left arm to balance my brawler builds. SJR though is pretty competitive, so I am guessing it tops out for you because of the Meta, or just cause it's fun? (I may lock horns with certain members of SJR, but don't want to paint you guys all with a broad brush. Just like every other unit, you got your jerks and you got your good folk)

Smart

My dad gave me one dollar bill
'Cause I'm his smartest son,
And I swapped it for two shiny quarters
'Cause two is more than one!

And then I took the quarters
And traded them to Lou
For three dimes -- I guess he didn't know
That three is more than two!

Just then, along came old blind Bates
And just 'cause he can't see
He gave me four nickels for my three dimes,
And four is more than three!

And then I took the nickels to Hiram Coombs
Down at the seed-feed store,
And the fool gave me five pennies for them,
And five is more than four!

And then I went and showed my dad,
And he got red in the cheeks
And closed his eyes and shook his head --
Too proud of me to speak!

You know, that would be a great anthem for the MetaWhore Nation......

It tops out because of the meta, but I also prefer having a shield side on any mech I use if it can be done. I also prefer the convergence of same side mounted weapons, as opposed to all arms on the standard variants.

I like the paint job too.

yeah, mine is Hot Rod black and I use Maize to give it some wicked Gold Piping. I think it not being able to use an AC20 also kinda chafes me.

As being the owner of every hero mech but the fang, I love them all in their own way but I'd have to go
1. Heavy Metal
2. Golden boy, (easily my best money maker)
3. Misery
4. Ember
5. Firebrand with dual gauss

^This. Although I'd probably swap Misery and Ilya. The ember is now the to go light hero, nasty little *******.

1) YLW
2) Oxide
3) Firebrand
4) Death's Knell
5) Grid Iron

The Oxide was the greatest surprise for me. I bought it a week or two ago out of curiosity (and the desire to finish leveling my Jenners without touching the K) and I've been running around with 3x SRM6 (5 tons ammo) and an XL255 since. 25 games in and it currently holds the highest stats of any of my mechs, with a KDR approaching 4. Nothing else even comes close. I'm really impressed.

I only really have a top 3, but I'll make a bit of a guess for some of the others based on observations from in-game.

1 - Firebrand (owned)
2 - Ember (owned)
3 - X-5 (owned)
4 - Dragon Slayer
5 - Heavy Metal
6 - Ilya Murometz
7 - Misery
8 - Yen Lo Wang
9 - Boar's Head
10 - Protector
11 - Jester
12 - Grid Iron
13 - Flame
14 - Pretty Baby
15 - Golden Boy
16 - Fang
17 - Death's Knell
18 - Oxide

Again, I only own the top three on this list, and I'm not particularly concerned about meta compatibility, so this ranking is mostly about how much the mech appeals to me.

I think you have to have dropped in a mech first to really know where it ranks, so this is based on my owned heroes only.

1: TDK - My favorite hero evar. Yes, I put this ahead of the Ember on purpose.

2: Ember - Everyone knows this thing is fun. No need to elaborate.

3: YLW - "But the Shadowhawk is better in every way!" -Guy who doesn't play with his Wang enough.

4: Flame - I wish I had found this earlier because it's one of the most fun mechs in the game. I was scared off by the Dragon stigma for far too long.

5: Ilya - The Chainsaw build was the first good build I ever used. It's fallen down my list because while it's a good mech, it's not as fun to drive.

6: Heavy Metal - I used to run this with 3x LPLs and a Gauss, but the days of that build working are long gone. I could still find another fun way to run this thing, but me and Assaults not named "Mauler" don't mix well.

7: X5 - Just bought this one and haven't had a lot of time to make heads or tails of it.

8: Grid Iron - Hunchies.... they frustrate me to no end.
