So in order to have DHS work normally, you have to 1) Master-rank it, a process that nominally is supposed to make a 'Mech BETTER than normal and 2) Stuff every heat sink in the engine.

Meanwhile, SHS are horrible period, but don't require mastering the 'Mech to be above their "average" or engine space.

MWO's heat sink system design needs a lumber department's worth of clue-by-fours. They can use the excess on ghost heat.

I believe we are getting sidetracked with heat sinks when this thread is suppose to be about burst fire ACs and the different mechanics that could be implemented to pull this off as well as the Pros and Cons of each one.

Also, can we get someone to sticky this thread?

No you're misunderstanding (partially).

If you have 10 DHS, mastering the mech improves it's performance.

If you have 17 DHS, mastering the mech will bring the heat dissipation up to TT levels (17 DHS in MWO dissipate 34.17 heat / 10 seconds, 17 DHS in TT dissipate 34 heat / 10 seconds). 17 DHS actually work better (albeit very slightly) in MWO than in TT. Therefore if you carry 17 or less DHS in a mastered mech you have more heat dissipation than TT.

In my example with 30 DHS, the mech dissipates ~5.52 heat/second in MWO compared to 6.00 heat/second in TT. (This means the MWO mech has 92% of the TT mechs dissipation ability).

I sure wish PGI would have done it properly though, it would have made this less of a twitch shooter.


I always though making the weapons in MWO have the same DPS as TT (IE: AC/20 has 2 DPS, ML has 0.5 DPS) would be interesting (coupled with making the weapons fire multiple times in 10 seconds, instead of one large shot as they do now).

While I would love to have ANY of these ballistics-based threads stickies just as an acknowledgement that someone is reading it, I think there are better threads than this one. The title alone would probably prevent it from being stickied, for instance. If one does get stickied, I would be happy to copy all of my ideas to it, but until then my recommended solution thread is in my signature.
