Hands exist on mech designs because that design has always had hands but I aggree it would be nice to be able to add/ remove actuators in future

Can't carry a hatchet if you don't have a hand!
I loved my hatchetman when I played tabletop BT back in the day.

Only a bit before that, they carried rifles. Wielded melee weapons. Punched, kicked, the works. Some were known to climb buildings. Camp out for weeks with a mech-portable Gauss Rifle (in fact this is what inspired the Gauss Spider design as it happened to be a Spider using it as a sniper picking off enemy defenses after losing his entire lance. It was to bide his time while waiting for the other planetary assault teams to meet him at the objective, whom presumed he was KIA with the crash.)
Flipping tanks was another popular thing. So was gluing to blast shields, ducking, going prone.
Much of this became reduced between a combination of the earlier neuro-helmets causing mindloss, insanity, and many other things. It soon was a limited time for a more direct link. Later on, the technology for it was simply lost when Kerensky left and took the entire Star League Defense Force with him.
They're coming back as "The Clans." Several hundred years later.
(Oh, and a random fun note: This is a Hunchback 4G.)

This is also a Hunchback 4G.

I thought that was interesting. Both are official Battletech art. The difference is the country.

Most of the footage comes from Mechwarrior 4, which to me was the worst of the MW franchise (MechAssault doesn't count). Deal with it.
(Long story short.. Technology went downhill real fast when Kerensky left.)

Of course, since none of those things are live in MWO, they're ultimately about flavor. Hopefully that'll change eventually (after CW I hope we get Solars VII/melee voted in as next priority).

On TT we could remove lower arm and hand actuators so as to allow larger crit weapons(AC20 or instance)

The Japanese Stalker is much more awesome than the US version I think.

I saw that and kinda shook my head. It'd never survive in MWO.
