These contests royally [redacted] over this fundamentally team-based game. During these contests, Mechwarrior is flooded with people who:
  • Disconnect when they're launched into an unfavorable map
  • Disconnect when the tide turns against their team
  • Disconnect the moment they lose an appendage
  • Use their teammates as meat shields
  • Aggressively kill steal
If PGI's objective is to improve player participation, they need to develop a more interesting and accessible contest with a wide diversity of rewards, ranging from the relatively meaningless (e.g. participation awards), to the moderately interesting (e.g. free module unlocks) to the very rare and/or valuable (e.g. display items or special mechs/camouflage patterns).

Wouldn't know about the first 3 but the other 2 are prime ways to score high.

Yeah...

I dislike this tournament setup. It should be the FIRST ten matches, or a set amount, a round robin or a bracket system.... anything but this horrible best 10 matches thing. This tournament caters to people who have lots of time to play. *cough*Koreanease*cough* The more matches you rack you the better chance you have at winning. I think its time for a different tournament setup.

Also, your score formula is wrong: Kills × 20 + Kill Assist × 10 + (Damage Done – Team Damage) ÷ 15 + Wins × ###+ Loss × 10 + Survive × 20 + Dead × 10

But just doing the first ten is bad too. What if you drop four matches and just get terrible, awful teams? Or you drop and whoops, there's a 4man of 733Cs on the other team? Or the opposite way around, what if you get great PUG luck, and your team pushes with you, draws fire for your medium while you do damage? That makes the tournament almost entirely luck-based; you should know how heavily lucky plays into the MWO PUG queue, especially when you have to drop solo.

Might be better to cap your total number of match entries at 50 or something?

edit: Although I realize that the whole point of this tournament is to make people play a lot for the weekend, and capping the number of matches that count towards the tournament works against that.

So basically, no teamwork to be expected this weekend. Except of course, the teams that sync drop their guys as solos.

MechWarrior Online puts MechWarriors into team-based and tactical battlefield where the victors swim in the spoils of war and are rewarded with the almighty C-Bill (in-game currency).

Sadly this type of tournament promotes anything BUT teamwork, it brings out all the "me-me's" and kill stealers. I for one would love to see a tournament that rewards lances for actually working together as a team.

Good luck to those that participate.

OMG! PGI give stuff away and you lot complain, get a life [redacted]!

Steady yourself! A whole $4.30 in MC for first place in a chassis, and $1.20 in MC for 2nd to 5th place. Way to splash out PGI! You do know how to treat your customers.

With a whole $4.30 in MC on the line, I don't really see the incentive.

They are really a lot of fun about time we had something to do. Dropping and doning the same thing over and over now at least has some small purpose. To the criers you don't have to play a ******** amount to get in the top 20, just not suck. If you want first you have to work for that...shocking.

Still no punishment for Elo-tanking. :/ That "tie-breaker" system isn't going to help anything if 1-2 players are significantly leading others by rofl-stomping low-Elo players for 10 matches.

I will say this... there will be teamwork, but it's not in the "traditional form". I personally can't say it's great either, but you'd have to consider that in 12-mans, you can't always be the star, unlike 8-mans.

Although, it will be meta all over the place... so... fun...

While I agree that the prizes are incredibly stingy, I do get a fair amount of enjoyment just out of the competition for its own sake.

Was honestly considering it- then I remembered what it's going to be like this weekend. Yeah, I'll pass on that and play the new Thief game instead.

This is nice as a gesture and gives people playing something to strive for. Unfortunately, I will probably not have time to participate.

However, if what you want to do is encourage players to sink some time in each week, you could consider having a perpetual event like. . .

Each week, players can win 10 MC up to three (3) times. Player win for contributing a match score equal to, or exceeding 80, 90, or 100.

Well, it's an idea anyway. You'd have to play exceptionally well 10 weeks to afford even a 'Mech bay, but otherwise it doesn't run afoul of people's schedules or which 'Mechs they own or anything. I think people would go for it.

Anyway, good luck to you blokes running the gauntlet!

Sure, there's something to be said for making friends during a tourney.

Now... if there was a "fun module" that existed...

I will say only this once...

There will be a lot more airstrike+arties in the tourneys. Don't complain to me about it... you probably didn't speak up about it before.

You have been warned.

We'll probably see it but damage is a small component of the score. I'm sitting on a fat pile of 233 million so arty/airstrike is cheap.

I only wish the reward was greater. When I won Heavy vs. the World I got 2.5k for winning (tying) Dragons and 2.5k for overall.

I only have like less than a quarter of what you have. :)

I'll probably have to double dip. I'll need it. -_-

They haven't done the light tourney yet, have they? And they are repeating the medium?

Been so long I can't be sure...
