Whenever my mech starts its power-up sequence at the start of a game, it says "all systems nominal."

This is a bit confusing.

Quote

nominal

ˈnɒmɪn(ə)l/
adjective: nominal

1. (of a role or status) existing in name only.
"Thailand retained nominal independence under Japanese military occupation"

2. (of a price or charge) very small; far below the real value or cost.
"they charge a nominal fee for the service"

So... the systems on my mech exist in name only? They are only theoretical and do not really exist? THAT explains the low damage scores I am getting in my games...

Or are the systems in my mech of little value? Or simply really small?

I understand if my systems are "operational" or "online" - I'd prefer it if they were "optimal" to be honest.... but why are my systems "nominal?" I've even bought premium time!

I understand if the systems were "nominal" on mechs like the Locust or Awesome - but they're like this on ALL my mechs - even the meta-build heavies and assaults.

How can I upgrade them?

Number 5.

All systems are "functioning normally or acceptably."

My reactor can cause reactions.
My guns can shoot.
My sensors can sense.

All systems appropriately doing what their name implies.
(Yeah, I'm just goofing here..)

Its indeed a word that is used correctly. English can be a weird language, better get used to it.

All systems phenomenal would have been a bit over the top even by PGI standards.

nominal also describes a state which is in "named parameters", or differently said, "as it should be" or "as it´s told to be"...

also look at "nominal value" = "rating" or "denomination"

i don´t know much about Latinum, but it should derive from Nomen = Name, so if you "name" reactorcapacity = 100% as optimal, then 100% is nominal ;)

well, hope that´s all correct and might help :)

The other thing to note is that even if the usage of the words were wrong (proved otherwise) it is used as the language in 3050.

Words and language evolve so you have to ignore current rules, just look at all those clanner words.
