Yeah, but the mech has huge arms to protect the torso. No arm mounted guns on Banshees if I recall correctly.

Actually, as a hero mech, maybe this lore friendly one is a little too good:
  • BNC-5S Vandergriff A custom BNC-5S piloted by Solaris VII duelist Victor Vandergriff during the Solaris riots. The weapon loadout is similar to a standard BNC-5S. Two ER PPCs are the main armaments, one mounted in the left arm and the other in the right torso. A LB-10X sits in the left torso. The two medium lasers of the original are retained in the left arm. The right arm contains a small SRM-4. Finally, four jump jets are added for increased mobility. BV (2.0) = 1,853[26]

One would hope they don't do it... because there will be screaming about it if that were the case.

Although this particular entry in sarna is hilarious though...

Quote

Marshal Sharon Bryan piloted a Banshee during the invasion of Huntress until it was destroyed by a Smoke Jaguar Cauldron-Born. Her variant used two PPCs and one Gauss Rifle, likely a -5S model.

How does this suprise anyone?

You remember this "100 Ton 'Mech Poll here" thread they made like two years ago?
There were 4 100 ton mechs to vote for (Annihilator, Devastator, King Crab and Imp), and for bonus vote you could choose your favorite 95ton mech between the Banshee, the Banshee AND the Banshee.

Given the 95t slot is the only one missing for assault mechs, and the banshee fits the timeline, how could it have been anything but the Banshee? I would have been shocked if they announced any other mech.

Would it be cooler to get another 100t mech? King Crab anyone? Sure.
Was there even the tiniest chance to get anything but the Banshee? I don't think so.

Zeus. Could be more manuverable than the Victor because no JJets to boost it. Carries big weapons, LRMs, Gauss, PPCs. Some models can still have Binary Lasers even though in 3050 they are considered Lostech. Improved Cooling Jacket quirk. There is a lot to like.

Well, glad I never mastered an Atlas or own any. Except the Founders one. Banshee may be more fun to blow up than drive tho.

another humanoid mech with hands that looks just like all the others.

I really wish PGI would mix it up some. The annihilator or king crab would have done that, but as far as the banshee goes, chalk me up as officially "meh".

it does mix it up a little bit - perhaps not visually, but this 'Mech is the first of its weight class in the game, and the first ballistic heavy assault.

a very little bit.

I'm just tired of them choosing mechs that all look alike.

all the cool looking 'Mechs were pretty much stolen from Harmony Gold - FASA's in house designs were pretty bad (with the exception of the Zeus which is awesome looking)

It can run 3x AC5(with a standard engine only) or 4x AC2's, all in the same bloated side torso. But it can't stop the Dire Wolf with its 4x UAC10/LBX10 or 3xUAC20

You guys who think the King Crab is gonna be OP better lube up, because the Smoke Jaguars are en route.

A 95 tonner is cool ,we needed that slot filled anyways. :-) I was too hoping for the king crab but maybe next time, lol maybe time after next(mauler).4 ac2s are cool but all in one location will be a neuter fest for that torso .I'll be getting them I guess with cbills unless the hero is sweet.:-) looking forward to seeing them soon hope.

From a business perspective, I could see them releasing the Crab and King Crab as an IS answer to the new Clan mechs after the Clans are in the game. It would make some sense - watching the Inner Sphere fight back with this reinforcement pack! - and would allow them to sell some products to IS fans who may feel forgotten after all the Clan mechs work through the system.
