great art piece. Especially considering the original design was easy to ruin. Actually was requesting more fluff info..... Battle Cobra was a Steel Viper design, was it not?

Yep, virtually Steel Viper totem 'Mech, rare outside of their service, much older compared to Mad Cats and the other Clan omnis that carried the invasion. Its 40 ton medium 60/90 speed omni with its FF and ES crits in its torsos and no XL engine, pretty much pod space in its arms only. Very energy weap heavy in its configs. ComStar ended up with quite a lot of operational Battle Cobras after they beat the Steel Vipers on Tukayyid and chose to use it as the basis for their first OmniMech. IS version is slower to give it more pod space for heavier IS weaps as well as C3i.

We have no official art of the ComStar version, but for years I've been repurposing some older Battle Cobra art from the "Invading Clans" book which has a more angular blocky look compared to the rounded TRO:3058 art. My thought is much like the Firestarter and Blackjack omnis are more angular than the non-versions, same would happen with IS Battle Cobra. Lucky timing with David White in 2012 resulted in that image.

Interesting.... never heard of that Mech.... did check all the sources the sarna article did mention.
Only the sentence that ComStar may working on their own Omni.... "first official" appearance is indeed the recordsheets 58....

My first encounter with battletech was mechwarrior 2 and that iconic timberwolf on the front made me an instant fan.

No other mech really comes close.

Same with me. That Timberwolf stepping out of a wall of fire just screamed cool. Been my favorite mech ever since.
