I'm sure somebody has already asked this question in one form or another, but it's earlier and my coffee hasn't kicked in yet, so I'm not going through hundreds of posts to find it.
Something I would love to see with the upcoming addition of the Clans, is a new game mode along the lines of an actual "Invasion" scenario. Better yet, a progressive invasion game mode, where as you play and accumulate points/kills/wins/losses, you move on to new missions on a planet, or move on to another. What would be EVEN BETTER than that is a chance to actually play through the first phases of Operation Revival (Clan Invasion), as every major power was included to one extent or another. And, because we'll have access to Clan-tech, players can choose which side they can play as during the Invasion. I'm sure many old-school Btech/MechWarrior fans will agree that this would be an amazing thing to see. Just consider for a moment what it would be like to replay some of the most EPIC battles of the initial invasion:
The Rock (I know it's in the Periphery, please bear w/ me)
Twycross (yes, complete with booby-trapped Great Gash)
Rasalhague
Wolcott
Alshain
Luthien
Tukayyid
There's so much material in the canon to use, and just as much, if not more, room for creative license.
Hmm, coffee's starting to kick in. So, fellow mechwarriors, thoughts?

The Op has an exciting idea. I hope that Mechwarriors star map is treated like any other strategy game, and the outcome is not dictated by lore or historical accuracy. Why anyone would expect this in a mechwarrior strategy game when no other stategy game has ever done this, is beyond me.
The idea of making full use of the stories, factions and geography of mechwarrior universe is a wealth to the game makers and it is very exciting to see what the star map and strategy will be like. Many other online games out there will be jealous that mechwarrior is going to offer a strategy map in some way, when they offer none.

Don't count on it. Devs have already indicated that we will be fighting over "Fronts" and that the core worlds of each faction will remain basically intact, and I personally don't really have a problem with that. I don't really feel like logging in every day to stare at a map that's all Steiner/Davion

Lol, and i thought i see that many Davion and Steiner because i'm playing in the same timezone as my German neighbours. And Steiner seems like a very German faction to me. Will be interesting to see how the faction challange will turn out.
Same as LauLiao i'm fine with fighting for border planets only, as long as we can fight for something 'meaningful' at some point. I am still more afraid that clan tech will ruin the games balance more than it will do any good, but we'll find out.

Well thats the fun of it isnt it. Which houses will be the winning houses?
Maybe using c bill rewards or something they can fill the ranks of the other houses.
Also I have seen alot of Frr and alot of the other houses show their colors, so it may be Davion at the bottom for a while, and I enjoy a challenge, prefer it actually. The trick will be how they bring the houses that are in a bad state back into the fight.
It may be that some houses are the underdog, and thats part of a good fight to.

I think that since everybody will just be piloting Clan tech after June, CW should just be in the Homeworlds and ALL of the Clans can be represented.
