Well dayum. The art department wont be out of work for a while I see.
I was hoping to see that a little earlier with some favorites of mine being stock in the future, not to mention more weapons that would increase variety in builds.
Here's hoping for that.

I'm willing to bet that like the board game they advanced the timeline to new era's with new designs (3055, 3058, 3060, etc, etc)

Maybe in a while with serveral mech tech jumps PGI could add a Game mode base upon mech generations so we will be able to play mechs based in a specifiied year range group.

Well in theory every tech will be balanced but I like your idea.

I guess it depends on what volume of mechs are available too? Divinding the player base by techs creates some problems though.

You could expand the concept and have an "all stock" mission mode?

so everyone here knows how to balance light ppc's and heavy gauss rifles which this thing equips? whilst not starting an arms race that would lead to much of our current stuff going redundant which is why clans are being beaten to death with the nerf bat? you understand this game's last integral bit of advertising and avoiding fraud is the 3050 timeline for the game seen here?

3060 level 3 tech... no go.

essentially the lobby would have an era box where you'd allow tech levels and disallow levels so content wouldn't be made redundant. however i'd like to play the game for a while as it's been advertised for years first IE; CW 3050 clan invasion rather than jumping straight for jihad and only having worth while use of our current stock in a seperate lobby.

well since it mentions 3050 twice and mentions we're all supposed to be using 3049 tech the chances are that when they update it they'll say 2018 {kinda when CW will be ready for complete play} is 3050. then again pgi logic...

There'd be so much crying.

"Wah, wah! This AC/40 mech Sam Fishered his way over to me and killed me before my 11 teammates popped over a ridge and cut him down! Nerf it, PGI, nerf it!"

My major concern is the arms race.

I mean, the whole reason that things like Gauss(my favorite weapon in BT, btw) and the PPC was to 'speed' up the game by intentionally making them OP and it has only gotten worse from there with things like the Heavy Gauss.

I would love to see the different mechs but I am not so sure that I am in a rush to see the different techs that come along with them.

It's not just the tech, there are quite a few designs that are absurdly nasty in certain situations. Take the Sagittaire, which is a 95 ton jumper armed with an ER PPC and two each of the LPLs, MPLs, and SPLs. The icing on the cake is that it's mated to an advanced targeting computer. It's going to execute, jihadi style, the entire light/medium close range brawler meta.

You're confusing variants. The FNR-5 has two HGRs, two ERMLs, and an MPL. The FNR-6U has two UAC-20s and two LPPCs.

From what I understand Time jumps are a possibility in this game, so it's possible the Fafnir might be in eventually OP.

More specifically, the now-departed Garth Erlam essentially confirmed (in NGNG Podcast #84, between the 7:40 and 9:30 marks) that there could be time-jumps in the timeline (and that said time-jumps would affect 'Mech availability, and that he didn't know when those would happen as of the point when the podcast was recorded).

More recently, however, Bryan Ekman indicated in ATD #50 (specifically, in the responses to questions #13 and #43) that PGI would be sticking with 'Mechs and tech that are available during the "current" era (that is, in/around 3050), which means that extinct chassis (and equipment) & chassis (and equipment) that have not been invented yet can be safely assumed to be not-in-the-running for the foreseeable future.

It is not possibility is guaranteed to happen because mech designers are doing good job and IGP made it focus of all income.
