For your consideration:

CTF-3D

I'm trying to figure out some Thunderbolt builds. They're a bit uncooperative.

While Jager & CTF in particular seem to be solid choices, there's just so many of them atm. I admit, I'd rather pick something that is good against them.

The best thing against CTF's and JM6's is another JM6
When I play my JM6 (doesn't matter which one) I fear other Jagermechs the most. Triple AC5+ triple MG is really usefull on the JM6-DD, the JM6-A is a bit strange but with streaks it's great against lights (also LRM boating is fun) and combine it with some AC5's or AC2's for long range and finally the JM6-S is a fun mech to use AC40 (dual ac20) on or a less Dutchy build would be to use the energy hardpoints 2PPC+2mlas+4MG's or 4mlas/4slas combined with LB10X's.

Since everyone's saying what they began with

I said that because I also started with the same mech so he might find some added value in that we have something in common (how little it even may seem) and because of that he might have the same perspective as me.

Lots of good advice here but to keep it basic pick a Med of some type that way it makes it that much easier to Master meds. So since you brought up LRM's pick something like a Treb or a Griffin.

Is there a another bonus to mastering besides another module slot?

While I like piloting mediums both for the underdoginess (in the current meta) and the fact that I'm used to them, I don't mind switching classes if there's fun in it.

I'll propably keep goofing around in the mechlab and posting some builds for opinions while I save up som C-Bills.

No for mastering, but your basic efficiencies double when you finish elite. That's sorta huge.

I am aware of the doubling of the basic efficiencies. However, it has beem my understanding that it is triggered on a specific variant by just completing the "elite" efficiencies of that 'Mech. For that, I need my three HBK-Variants - and only them.

So getting another Medium would serve no purpose in that regard.

Did I miss something?

No, he is just making sure you knew
It is the best thing in the pilot tree. Get the master module slot at your convenience.

That thunderbolt build you posted earlier will be too hot with the Large Pulse lasers. However, replacing them with large lasers will give you a very effective Thud, and my personal favorite.

Thanks for the thumbs-up in regards to the elite efficiencies and the TDR-Build - replacing the LPLasers with LLasers would have been my next step.

As things are now, I have (for now) made up my mind: I will save up for the Shadowhawk 5M, since many people recommend the 'Mech and I can get my hands on a XL 275. While I am aware that the XL 280 weighs the same, the 275 is the largest I can stick into my Hunchies for fun.

If I don't change my mind I will then move on to the Ravens, because the 3L (especially the ER-LLaser Sniper build) seems like a good way to change my game. Would the XL 275 be too much on a Raven?

Actually, the XL275 is the max (and thus usually best) engine for the RVN-2X and -4X. You'll want an XL295 for the -3L.

Grinding ravens can be a pain because the 2X and 4X are flat out inferior to the 3L, so many people get frustrated with them.

However, every Shadowhawk variant is good and a pleasure to pilot.

Hello again

found a rather interesting Quickdraw-Build the other day. Since that chassis has been recommended in between, I'm considering going for it instead. (Yes, I am fickle that way...)

Since this might lead to a build discussion, I opened a new thread in the (hopefully) appropriate section.

Cataphract offer a good deal of variation, great without an XL, about the only thing I wouldn't suggest then for is LRMboating.

Orion & Battlemasters are fun mechs as well.

If you did want another Medium Mech then Shadow Hawk, Griffin & Wolverine are all fun, agile and versatile chassis.

I remember. A relaxed chat made my dying early much less hurtful - for me. I have no idea how you can combine solid piloting and typing at the same time, I always run into things when I try that. :)

Should adapt my gaming hotkeys to dvorak already.

lol, maybe you should just play them all, since you're interested. I master all my mechs for the cbills, the xp (i take some time to get familiar with my mechs) and i never know if the extra module slot would be needed later.

If you love the Medium class, you should try the Centurion. I'm fond of these battlemechs !
