Do you like jj?
Do you like balistic weapons?
You see a couple of questions will narrow it down, the the loadouts that they have posted for the clan mechs should be pretty close on release as they are using battle tech for their pattern. You can see the projected loadout of the clan mechs if you mouse over each chassis, clan collection page.
I will talk about the Ryoken for example, as I like it. I will run all energy weapons, which make it hot and most the weapons are in the arms, not much of a brawler.
There are enough Inner Sphere mechs in the game that are similar to that to get a taste.

According to what we have seen, Clans will have a lot of customisation. Virtually every Omni has ballistic and missile hard points in some of its variations, the question is how many do you want.
As other suggested, Sarna and your own plays style are good places to start but for maximum flexibily you probably want a Timberwolf. It has good speed, excellent armour and heat capability and it's many variations should cover all but the most extreme min max options.
You might need to buy Omni pods down the track for fine tuning, but if your budget / rl scenario is only one mech, the Timberwolf is arguably the most balanced.
An alternative would be the Stormcrow, but its a little lighter and less variety on it's variants (mainly an energy platform)
I would recommend you stay away from the Direwolf, Kit Fox and Nova as while they are good mechs in many ways, they are niche mechs too. If they don't turn out to fit your play style you'll be disappointed.

That seems to be the consensus, which is kind of steering me away from Timberwolf a little bit wanting something different than what everyone else is buying. I may ultimately still end up going with the Timberwolf, but might be more inclined to pick something slightly less popular.

Well, its popular for a reason
It is a very good mech which gives a lot of options. But still, it's not the be all and end all either.
If you want something unpopular, go Kit Fox, that seems to be universally hated in the forums.

I tried the highlander for example,( which was actually one of my favorites in MW4 but that was with cross tech). and did not care for it much, ended up selling it and getting the griffon which i like quite a bit.
With clan tech, the thor should be quite a bit more manuverable then the highlanders, and have comparable firepower.
Here is a good example of play style helping you decide, ive played medium mechs alot and i just dont click well with big slow mechs.
Anyway, Thumbs up for the SUMMONER.

The Prime configs are listed on the Clan event page - all variants of will feature the same speed, engine sizes and armor types as the prime. That said: here's an image with the stats, and the estimated hardpoints for Clan mechs and some of the possible configurations they may give us.

good work but - didn't has the Nova A - 2 AMS?
I don't think the Uller C will made it simple because of the A-Pods

Untrue. I love the Kit Fox and i would buy it before the Adder. There are quite few Inner Sphere light 'Mechs able to mount an UAC/5 or a Gauss rifle and 2 ER mediums which will be not much less good than IS ERLL..

A pity, because it is one of those severely underrated designs you never see, but also understandable given the Clans' general disdain for artillery units. However, the fact that it is designed to shower enemy units with Arrow IV artillery missiles dooms it from ever appearing in MWO.

A pity indeed. There is a number of Nagas in the CW Alpha Galaxy, i would love to try them.
P.S. Just tried one in MechCommander Omnitech, it is quite powerful! It was funny to scrap a Rifleman in mere seconds

Dakka, I know this is asking a lot, but would it be possible if you could make a similar chart for some of the mechs we may possibly see? Such as: Mad Dog, Executioner, Dasher, Gargoyle, etc.

I think they are only short-sighted people who think lights must all perform the same combat duty, hit and run attacks.
*Takes some Nova Cat stuff to have visions*
I see.. I see.. It is a Kit Fox.. I see its arm ends with the barrel of a Gauss rifle.. It is sniping the poor Inner Sphere warriors..
I see .. Another Kit Fox.. It mounts a good short-range weaponry..It is laying waste to another light 'Mech in a dhonorable combat...."

Do Nova Cats take stuff? I thought that was Goliath Scorpians who were the druggies?
I'll go recheck, LOL
