So I've bought the La Malinche, and I enjoy it. I use it as a in your face brawler. I was wondering if there is anyone out there creating interesting and effective builds for them. This is my build:

LA MALINCHE

I know it's not great, but it's been reliable to me. I've taken out several heavies, an assualt or two, and any light I've snuck up on that's standing still. I know alot of people don't like it because it has low slung hardpoints making it very ineffective for sniping, but the way I see it is that it's built for sneaking up and picking off the enemy one by one or sticking with the group and picking the biggest opponent and sticking to him like glue occupying him while your team finishes him up. But yeah, it would be interesting to see what other kind of builds people are running with this 'mech.

I've been running a build suggested by 3rdworld for about 6 drops:

XL400
AC/10 (3T)
2 LPLs
2 MLs
19 DHS

Best game in 6 drops was 4 kills with 722 damage. There are a lot of other builds I want to try, but this one works pretty well so far.

Well, first thing I noticed is that while I love the name and the Aztec paint job, it is without a doubt, the worst looking design I have ever seen come off Alex's pen. (On another thread, they stretched it to "proper" banshee proportions, and it actually looked OK. Still needs the Raybans tho).

Next thing is that they nixed the JJs...but apparently forgot to buff the hardpoints to compensate. So it is a bit undergunned, but more to point, a bit light on build options. So this is my build
LA MALINCHE Bishop Steiner

The hit boxes are fantastic. And it tanks that XL like a boss. So keeping it's mobility up was the first priority, as you are not gonna win the "alpha" battle. But with it's speed, mobility and hitboxes, you can out last most mechs. (In Forest Colony I ended up at the lower cave mouth, pinned, with 6 mechs pouring fire into me. I crippled 3 and severely damage 2 more before my lance caught up and and finished them off. Not a breach anywhere, though everything was orange.)

But this build lets me hit at range some, but up close it has good heat endurance, and the lasers melt off the armor, then the LB-X scrambles the eggs inside. First match with this build I killed 4 fresh Heavy and Assaults solo...... doing 432 damage. I literally focused one location, and by my second volley internals were popping like Orville Redenbacher. Short of a YLW match back in the glory days of Closed Beta when Head hit boxes were rather more generous, this is easily the best damage to kill ratio I have ever had.

Not making Hero Mechs as good as others is P2W!

Olyvah

XL350
15 DHS
x2 PPCs
x1 Gauss rifle (x3 tons of ammo)
x1 Large pulse
x1 LRM10 (x2 tons of ammo)

I am a fan of using every hardpont, but in this particular case I am with bishop. I hate that head mounted laser. It simply looks ridicules.

Children Please, stop using XL engs in a Atlas. I know it can use a 400 ENG, but that doesn't mean you should. A 95ton assault mech doesn't get very much from engs above 325. Its more akin to an Atlas then anything else, as such you should treat it like one.

LA MALINCHE

Old Gauss/PPC meta mech, and somehow it still works quite well. the ERPPC is heat neutral so you can snipe for days with it and the Gauss.

Best damage I have gotten with that build has been 905 damage, lowest being 300.

Remember, its a 5 ton lighter Atlas, speed is not what it was built for.

This mech's hitboxes are very much like a shadowhawk.

It is very rare that I go down to a Side torso kill. 90% of all deaths are by CT.

Simply no reason "NOT" to use an XL engine.

I've tried your build like 8 times now.

Every time I get in a fight you either get picked apart because 50+% of your weapons are kissing the dirt and obstructions because they are so low or you are massively outgunned because the only thing that can hit them back is a single ER PPC and a pellet or two of scattershot.

Honestly brawling is the one thing you DON"T want to do with this mech. You can't fire up and you can't fire down. And the one hardpoint worthwhile that can clear cover is negated because you have a ppc which mounts it next to the cannon instead of a high mounted laser.

The hero banshee is made for sniping, anything else and you are just penalizing yourself.

One thing to remember is this mech and all its variants, are not hill humpers!

It works well in city's or with walls because you can peek around corners and shoot, but not with hills.

can't remotely agree. I brawl and brawl some more with it. I think it's simply a matter of playstyle. A lot of the builds you post, like for the Thunderbolt, I can't do squat with. So this appears to me to be a case of the same. My results squarely tell me the Banshee is mediocre at sniping, great at brawling.

come think about it would have been kewl to be able to mount a large laser in the mouth, instead they put a single hard point, such a tease! :P

I think the Hero Banshee brawls just fine. Just don't stand face to face trading blows. Use that great torso twist and higher speed to out maneuver Atlases and Stalkers, and use the speed to close within 90m of HGNs and Victors. Then go to work. I play mine as a striker/brawler. The hit boxes inspire confidence. I am not afraid to 1v1 anything with this mech.

The Banshee is a terrible hill humper. If you want to snipe, shoot around obstacles, not over them.

You are right about the playstyles.

As for sniping, I mispoke.

I don't sit in the back and hill hump from ridges or anything, the role I use for this mech is more of a "Line" mech.

I stand in the 400-600 meter range and hammer anyone that flashes me some armor, nothing subtle about it.

saw you using it today. never got long enough of a lock to see what you actually had but I assumed by what was coming out of it was Gauss/ERPPC in torso with twin LL in arms like I run in mine.
Not a fan of using Gauss in a torso (AC20 is king there for solo torso ballistics) but it works when protected by case and backed up by that PPC in the same side.

350 XL
15 DHS
Gauss Rifle (x3 tons of ammo)
Large pulse laser (Left Torso)
x2 PPC's (Arms)
LRM10 (x2 tons of ammo)

Weakness is extreme close range, but I am decent at planting shots in the same locations under pressure.

Gauss, twin ppc's and large pulse is a fearsome alpha and the LRM10 for assists and keeping peoples head's down. Just keep opponents in the 400-600 meter sweet spot.

I see alot of people using Gauss, AC/10, and AC/20 in their LMs. I prefer the LB AC/10 X personally. Also I try to stay away from the missile harpoint. It adds a head-sized target to your RT making it easier to destory. So I'm not a huge fan of that and I use the RT mostly for DHS storage.
