Hey guys,

This is not whine about matchmaker being fail. Just wanted to see if anyone else thinks that sometimes it feels like the matchmaker is out to get you.

You play like 3-4 very good games with good damage and kills and then what i think if the matchmaker had a twisted sense of humor it would say "Enjoy this next one it will be glorious battle" .

It teams you up with 2 assaults and 2 Champion mechs , rest is lights and meds and on top of that you get a disco Vs 7 assaults 3 of them poptarts. And you in a Medium mech with no JJs.

MatchMaker"That was GLOOOOOORIOUS ................... i hope you enjoyed that as much as i did"

Thanks

The matchmaker works by using Voodoo to conjure up the strangest games. Well it must be  I mean, playing conquest with a team full of slow moving fat mechs and 1 light Vs a team full of lights on Alpine peaks was a great laugh the other night lol

I have noticed though if the matchmaker is struggling to fill the spaces it always seems to throw in noob champion mechs to make up the numbers.

There was one match I had where things got seriously screwed up. I was in my Firestarter and dropped into a Skirmish map. I had been doing okay for the evening, nothing too bad or good.

But then I noticed something odd - the heaviest Mech on my team was a Dragon. Just let that sink in for a minute. Having no assaults on Skirmish is already kind of a toughie - but nothing better than a Dragon?

I run out and do a little recon. The other side's got to be fairly light too, right? Anyways, they can't have more than a couple of heavies and/or assaults, right?

Turn a corner and run into an Atlas. Oops, run the other direction.

Drat, pair of Cataphracts. My heart starts to sink.

AC bullets start pinging around me, and I get incoming missiles. I turn around to see a Stalker and a pair of Jagers. Better retreat.....

And just as I pop round the final corner, I get tagged by a Victor jjsniper.

I was keeping up a running commentary of mechs sighted to my roommate at that time - I could barely pilot straight with how much I was laughing.

Final enemy tally: 4 Assaults, 5 Heavies, 2 Mediums, 1 Light.
My team: 2 Heavies (both Dragons), 7 Mediums, 3 Lights.

Match maker is based on how much MC you spent to paint your mech. I miss the green mech days when I could run around with ECM coring assaults through the back without a care in the world.

The better your wins, the more the MM will try and put you on a losing team.

It -loves- to drop me in an underweighted team full of Trial 'Mechs and newbies after I end up on the winning side 3-4 times in a row. Gotta maintain that 50% W/L ratio!

One time matchmaker put together a lance of 4X ravens, it looked like a premade it was pretty funny & worked out well.

What really has me scratching my head are those times when MM puts 3 high elo premades on one team vs 1 premade and random PUGs on the other. The obvious thing to do there is to put 2 high elo premades on each. Why doesn't it do it?

This makes me think that the MM's algorithm fills up each team independently to reach a certain elo parity, and does not consider shuffling premades and players between the two teams as a final optimization. Just a guess though. :)

That team you were on would have a fairly low Elo. The match maker would expect you to lose and only lower your Elo slightly if at all.

This is me. EVERY SINGLE DAY.

OH ho ho! you just ran 800 damage in that guass muromets? Here let me give you a team with one champion stalker, that fires lrms at 30 meters at a light mech while the other team gets a stiener ddc lance and 3 '733's/9B's in a premade all poptarting...HUEHUEHUEHUEHEUEE

(im not even over-exaggerating, this crap happens every night.)

Took me 2 hours of playing this morning to get a decent game that I could log off to, and not have a sour feeling all day long..lol

How about having the highest damage in the game and higher damage than 9 of your teammates combined(nearly 10).

Not to mention doing more damage than all of the assaults on the team combined and still losing. Actually, it was so bad I couldn't even get a kill because we got rolled. I never had a chance to work on one person alone.

I've been there. It is frustrating beyond words when it happens. The most egregious instance I've seen was when the heaviest mech on our team was a Cataphract, and all we had were two of those. The other team? Four DDCs, a Stalker, and an Awesome, with two heavies to boot. Guess who lost that one?

This was a good one from last year, we had 10 (no show and a disco) v 12 and some how the matchmaker put 8 Atlas's in the enemy team. We won but that's not the point, the weight bias alone was shocking.

Thanks matchmaker.

I guess instances like this are the driving factor behind the MM "upgrade" on 29 April.
I'm not sure about the 84% Solo-PUG figure they put out, but I am definately not sad about the 1 premade per team restriction. I also like the rule of 3's that will be implimented which should clean up the above examples.

Might motivate those HGN-733-poptarts to run something else for a change when they dont find a match the nth time in a row. :P

Yeah, ELO can be really evil, which is the only certain driving factor behind the current MM. When you end up "getting good" MM drops you with with inexperienced players to "balance the equation", always striving for the 50% W/L ratio.

It's misleading. It is 84% solo drops, but only 66% solo players.

Great one from today, just count the assaults on our team. Also note that there is a Victor premade lol. The rest of the team wasn't exactly light.
