lasers melt the hard candy shell, mgs shred the soft goodness inside. Had another match showing that off last night. My "team" (I use the term loosely since it was more like a herd of cats) was on the losing end of a standoff on H9 on Alpine, the OpFor totally controlling the engagement. Anytime I thought about looking, I got nailed. Did notice some stragglers all the way back at the old "derp ring" aka the Radio Tower Hill. Decide "screw it" and take off down the lower valley to do a long flank. I get there, and find 2 Cataphracts, with a Jest about 500 meters out. Start to focus on the left leg of the bearest Phract, manage to take it to internals before damage from the two of them forces me to break off, one of them in hot pursuit. I wait til out of sight, I break to the left, he (thankfully) breaks to the right. After about 20 seconds I cautiously crest the tower hill again, and find the first 'Phract, back to me sniping at the H9 battle. 4MLasers and some MG love, and off goes the left leg. The it's a simple matter of 3 circle strafes while he clumsily tries to track me, and off goes the right. Back behind the hill I go, cautiously looking for the other 'Phract, find him a ways down the road to H9, sniping with his Gauss. Instead of legs, I focus fire on his right rear torso torso, and before he takes note, my MGs are clawing thru his internals, and pop goes his Gauss, which means pop goes his XL. Unfortunately, by this point, the Jester is hot on me, so we spend 30 seconds in a circle of death, before I claim both his legs. At which point the other 5 members of his team, having killed the rest of mine aside from a Sniper Raven 3L (yep my herd of cats had an 11/9 advantage, and not only cowered and hid, but died with minimal enemy casualties.) were able to focus fire me, especially since the Jester had stripped my right leg bare. About 20 seconds later lose the leg, and of course, lose the mech. The Raven drags the match out with scoot and shoot (but largely futile) sniping, as they stay deathballed pretty well, and of course, we lose.
Final Stat line? 3 kills, 1 assist, 358 damage. Almost all of it focused for max pain. MGs, are far from great, but the set up on the Ember is just the perfect storm. 150 kph speed, Light size (well, big for a light, small compared to everything else) and ShadowHawk-esque hit boxes, JJs and that quad laser, quad MG goodness. Too many people still under armor their legs and backs, and too few aside from Lights and Light Hunters bring enough speed, yet they want to call the Ember and its MGs OP, lol. Stop building Poptart MetaMechs, that get ruined by mechs that don't poptart back or cower! Put armor on your legs and back! Pilot mechs that can turn, lol.
