Is it just me, or did the payouts for each match get reduced? Yesterday I was making 220k a match and now I'm making 60k-70k a match. I'm new to this game. Can someone help. Thanks. My performance has gotten better. My damage rating had gone up and I'm still using the trail mechs.

For your first 25 matches you get a bonus to help you buy your first mech.

Edit: I would comment more (and I should really) but dinner just got done.
If no-one has helped more by the time I get back I will help more.

Luck to ya!

Yeah, Cadet Bonus as mentioned by Shar. Besides that, I want to comment on three things. First Smurfy to plan out your first mech. http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab This will be important as you will need to buy your own mechs (click on the use C-bills once you have enough in-game money, while MC is the real-life money format). Another thing is the mastering of a mech requires 3 variants of a chassis to complete. This is needed as you will have to master your first mech. Lastly, after playing through the trials, which do you feel suits you the most or what style of gameplay do you prefer? You will want to purchase your own mechs soon. Hope I helped. :P

As previously mentioned, your first 25 drops you get a "Cadet Bonus" in order to help get you started.
Once done with those 25 matches you should have a good lump of CBills to play with. Before making any purchases I'd suggest you play with your ideas in Smurfy's MWO Mechlab. It's an amazing fan run site. You can also visit the Mechs & Loadout area of the forums for ideas.

Finally, consider joining one of the community run voice servers. Even if you don't own a mic, or don't want to talk to others, it's still a great way to get into pick up groups and maybe find a unit a join.

Cheers.

Probably because your recruit bonus ran out.
It only lasts for your first 25 games.

Admittedly it's still possible to get 200,000+ cbills but it's harder now. The game won't just give it to you once you get through the cadet bonus. Now you have to earn it.

Catapult.

I've got a few above 200,000 but most of the screens ones that also show the cash are of mechs with bonuses.

Do note, the cadet bonus is scaled accordingly: highest at your first match and lowest at the 25, then it is removed. You should have 8 mil cbills minimum at the end of it though.

They've already addressed your spercific question. I do have some additional tips, though!

Gettings Kills & Assists on Assault mode is the best way to rack up fresh c-bills. 7500 per assist on Assault, so one strong tip is to try to collect as many assists as you can whle focusign on Assault mode. A kill is worth 5000 C-bills but you also always get a component destruction from a kill, so in total a kill pays you at least 7500 too. If you're getting 3 or 4 assists per match, try to double that. I would make your priorities:
  • Survive. Don't go out alone. Stick to your team.
  • Intentionally collect Assists. If your team encounters 3 enemies, deal some damage to all 3.

Bringing support items like ECM, TAC, and NARC can also help, but it relies on your team to take advantage of those bonuses.

Thanks to all for the advice! I'll look into buying a mech. I've seen players on twitch that have 40+ mechs. How did they get so many with such a low payout after the cadet bonus?

Many players have a Hero mech (permanent c-bil bonus), founder mech(slightly smaller c-bill bonus), or are running with premium time(or previously had a large bank of premium time).

Many players have also been playing for one or even two years, and there's nothing else to spend c-bills on.

Even without premium time or a c-bill bonus mech, it's not that hard to rack in 100k to 200k in a match. I usualy see 120k for a decent match if I don't get killed early by a mistake or a lucky shot. I metioned assists in my prevous post; ten assists is 75000 c-bills without even counting the damage dealt, or any components destroyed, or the base amount for winning or bonuses for providing target spotting.

If I settle down for a night of mechwarrior i'll probably walk away with over a milion c-bills in an evening, and by the time I've mastered a set of 3 mechs (still working on mastering my shadowhawks, eight or nine thousand XP to go) I'll probably have enough to buy 3 more mechs.

As someone now sitting on 93 mechs, it was a combination of all the things that Redshift stated.

Of course anyone making videos is playing a lot more than most casual players are, too. Some tips. Bring TAG, bring streaks or LRMs.
  • The combination pays you twice; once for using the missiles (spot bonus you do have to see them first or have a brief moment where only you are targeting them to become the 'spotter'), again for having tagged the target when using missiles -- [condition is you have to HIT the target with said missiles].
  • If you targeted the person first you also get paid a spot bonus for your own missiles as mentioned but you are then paid for everyone that also hits that target with missiles.
  • You are paid once per player that hits that one target. But you can find another target and rack in cash again.
Assist others in combat.
  • When fighting in a group the rewards are a lot more significant than fighting by yourself.
  • Example: If in an on-going fight where several players are in a weakened state (stripped armor, missing limbs), then when the enemy you shot at dies -- regardless of if you kill or not -- you get a "Savior Kill" bonus. It means you saved someone from dying. This is awarded to every active member in the fight, and is given as many times as there are weakened players. So say you are in a fight with 5 team mates, and 4 of them are weakened, for killing that one enemy you just got 6,500 * 4 for the 4 weakened players. You also get this bonus if you, too, are weakened. So if it was 5 players, 4 weakened + yourself missing a leg for example, you just got 6,500 * 5 = 32,500 + the normal kill assist payout. It adds up fast!
  • Sometimes a single bullet can get you 8 rewards on the savior kill setup.
  • Got no weapons left but a fight is still brewing? Run into the enemy. If your mech can go over 80 kph or if you are 30 tons heavier than your target, running into them may not produce closed beta's knockdown mechanic, but the damage is still there. It's minor, but it's enough to get a payout when the enemy dies.
Defense can pay.
  • Seemingly unheard of is a Defense Kill payout. This requires you to kill an enemy (or assist in the kill) within a base capture zone or to kill (or assist in the kill of) an enemy while standing in your base capture zone. It pays as much as a savior kill. Tack it on with being wounded yourself, and you get a defense kill and a savior kill for yourself. ;)
  • As a pack of light mechs, defense kills pay out really easily as chances are every single light will be wounded to the point of getting savior kill bonuses.
We're in the money!
  • Different game modes pay out more. Conquest is best for lights, the combination of defense kills, savior kills, tag and LRM/streak use, and hit and run tactics really pays out well. You only need to help actually capture one base, but a pack of lights can capture bases pretty quickly in a needy situation. This plus constantly being on the move would be great if Repair and Rearm ever returns. Though Conquest pays the least for actual kills and kill assists, it still means quite a bit in the long run.
  • Assault pays quite a bit for kills and assists. Destroying turrets (140 health) pays pretty well. Assists in killing them by spotting one out for LRMs also pays but comes with risks.
  • Skirmish seems to pay very well for kills and assists... but that's all that matters. The real money comes from inefficiently killing enemies through excessive amounts of damage at the risk to your team's survival.
Even scrap pays.
  • Salvage bonuses used to pay out really well for intact enemies back when there was only 8 people to spread it to. Headshots paid the most in salvage. Legging paid the second most. Destroying by torso always slumped the payout to almost worthless. It still pays reasonably well, but actively hunting headshots or leggings is bound to be iffy.
  • The game used to pay more for capturing than for destroying all enemies in assault because it meant every enemy still alive counted as high-end salvage. This is no longer the case. If you capture early you get crap for money.
  • Components destroyed do not count toward salvage; only what is intact.
  • Salvage is only earned if you win.
  • Sadly, it pays more to you individually to destroy as many bodyparts as you can. These are component destructions.
It costs 40,000 cbills, but a well placed artillery strike can be the difference between 400 damage and 1700+ damage. However the likelihood of such great results are very slim. You can practice with an artillery strike for free in the testing grounds (that is you have to get one in your module slot and pay for it, but you can use it in the testing grounds without buying another. It can be reused again by reloading into the testing grounds. Practice makes perfect. The key is either Home or End.)

Here's two visual examples.

In this short clip with a Blackjack 1X, the lower left corner of the screen for yellow text when I kill the Atlas. Be sure to set the resolution to 720P to make it easy to read. If someone could have saved me from the lights they would definitely get savior kill bonuses!

Here, there's a short end to a Skirmish match (apparently it doesn't pay as well as assault does!) where I get a few kills as a Jagermech. It's followed by a Jenner with an ER PPC, a TAG and 4 medium lasers while using an Atlas as a shield. Proof that slow light mechs are viable. I get repeated kills, assists, and lots of cash bonuses throughout the second match. (sorry that some of the video is jumbled I didn't proof-watch before uploading).
Enjoy.
