If you download any patch that has a major graphical change in it and you find that you are having more troubles then before, then the first thing you should do is remove your user.cfg file if you have one and restart the game.

In my case I have a back up copy and so I modify my user.cfg in the game folder and delete all but cl_fov = 90 so I don't lose my field of view setting.

I agree i did this and no improvement I do have lots of warnings in logs.

"WARNING: Failed to open shader cache file Shaders/Cache/D3D9/CGVShaders/_Shared@Common_ZPassVS.fxcb"

A better recommendation would be to delete the Shaders Cache folder every time you are about to play with a new game version after a big patch...

...\USER\Shaders\Cache\*

Even more so if you get error messages concerning files from said cache...

Since last patch I have crashing to desktop.
Never had this before.
FPS went for a crap and stuttering is now common.
Lovely.....

It's something to try people. It may correct issues brought on by your user.cfg causing conflicts. It's not a cure all.

Deleting shaders helped me a lot, but it might not fix everything (I don't think it did for me). User.cfg is possibly a culpret as well.

I'm surprised they don't automatically have the patcher delete the shaders directory.

The repair tools remove unneeded/obsolete files with new patches.
Yes, you can use the repairtool to install updates. I've done it for a while and don't have issues with updates since.

It is an official suggestion mentioned in the 1st message in the "Crash and Stability Feedback" sub forum of any patch. Helped me multiple times as well, and I delete the cache when bigger changes come with a patch.

In the new UI, where is the Repair Tool? I honestly can't find it any more when I click the cog icon from the launcher screen...

It's not in the UI, you need to DL it and run it separately.

Wasn't it already in the launcher before the move to the new UI? O.o

Repair tool ^^

Use it instead of patcher.
