I don't know what's happened... when i left the game last week, it was in a state of the regular PUG roflstomps with every match beginning with the traditional en masse blitz for the center, exploding in a deathball clash and then devolving into general chaos from there.

Nary a thought to tactics, teamwork or prolonging one's match.

When i started playing this week - prime time both Mon & Tues - it's like a whole new game... teams aren't rushing for the maps' centers... they're maneuvering under cover, flanking, ambushing, splitting into balanced forces, hiding under dual AS7 DDC.

They don't fragment as much... they don't abandon stragglers... they don't even clog the doors to the death bowl on Terra Therma.

What gives? Do better and more serious players simply log on earlier in the week?

It's probably more likely the casual players play less during the week, so you get matches with good players more.

My experience has been that Mondays & Tuesdays are good nights, Wednesdays & Thursdays are often unbearably puggy, and Friday-Sunday is good fun but competitive because of the increased player base.

I can only explain the mid-week pug-storm by casual players needing an escape from their week at work.

Don't know if anyone else has experienced this pattern?

Part of it might be events like the "Scrambler" run by Comstar Irregulars in the public queues......heavier influence of strong players. Also as said above, it depends alot on the demographics of a given timeframe. Lastly you might be "on the cusp," flirting where the Elo bands change and thus seeing behaviors different enough to notice because you are playing with a higher percentage of players who get what works.

Fri-Sun are the highest player populations- and thus, the biggest number of PUG + newbie clumps of derp and herp.

Count your blessings.

Not to say you don't get Team Derp on weekdays- it's just that there tends to be less of them. Heck, the worst stomping I ever delivered was mid-week, 12-0 and nobody on the other side broke 200 damage.

Such a sad "woe is life comment" .

Assault matches generally have the puggers hugging base and using some patience, thought, and, communication.

Teamwork, it does exist in pug matches.

Well, there has always been a big difference in the player types depending on time zone, play day, etc.
You get vastly different play styles when you are on during US prime time, European Prime time, and even the infamous Russian prime time.
During the week when the kids need to be in bed because they have school you have a relatively more mature/serious audience compared to the "weekend crowd".
Patch days, school vacation, etc. all influence the kind of people you will be playing with/against.

But of course lately a lot of good and bad changes have been attributed to an increase in ELO. I'm not sure about that, though it makes sense in most instances, but an ELO increase is about as mysterious as "Gods will" until we can actually see what ours is. *shrug*

I had no idea what Titan Fall was... then i saw a ridiculous 2 minute television ad for it... HOLY CRAP!

I could see how that would grab the attention of casual gamers. I don't game... at all... I'm only here because i love BT novels, so TF won't drag me away... but I can totally see a few games eating into MWO's playerbase considerably if major improvements aren't made here fast.

This guy, he knows. This is so true. Tonight being Thursday, I actually became so disgusted with the teams I was on in the end(after horrendous loing streak with paint sniffing team mates) I logged out in frustration, which I do not do often. Monday and Tues this week? AWESOME MEGA AWESOME FUN matches where people broke the traditions of pugs and made logical decisions and we had close matches.

This phenomenon dates back to January for myself. Weekends I get a mixed bag of teams, but my ISP and bad ping are a bigger concern weekends if I enjoy the game or not(depends if my weapons actually do anything or not due to ping fluctuating from 70 to 550)

Odd. I just played a thursday night match. And it was freaking awesome. We played assault and actually used stategy to have 1/2 of our team hold of the enemy long enough for the rest of us to disable the turrets and cap their base. Part of this may be my fault though, since I encouraged them to use tactics in a kind and gentle way.

BUT... your right, On my team I was communicating by typing targets and supporting pugs that needed help.

The other team, clearly, did not do that.

So I guess young Luke, it depends on your point of view.

If you were on my PUG team you would be arguing for this topic and if you were on the other team, you would be disagreeing.

50 / 50 chance I guess.

What make Russian time 'infamous?'
Though I think, in my view, the chat during Russian/European time is HYSTERICAL and much better than North American.

The lack of teamplay displayed by Russian's player? The complete rush they usually do? :3

It's also the same on other F2P. World of Tank, there are pro at rushing tactics.
War Thunder. Same
Let's not even talk about Hawken.

Don't get me wrong, it's the same for the other time.
But the Russian's.... Have something "special".
