Because the XL engine will let you go faster, carry more ammo, and/or carry more armor. The STD isn't really giving you much extra durability because your armor is so low, plus you won't be able to retreat from fire as easily with slower movement.

While I usually like to have a standard engine I think in this case bumping up to an XL for more ammo and armor is a good idea. I've seen these things on the field before as much fun as it looks they usually just die without getting much done.

You need as much tonnage as you can for the Dakka...

Is this build supposed to be practical? no, it isn't. Therefore, std. also, I fiddled with an XL and it didn't add much improvement. either a minor increase of about 15 kph, a little more armor, a tonne or so more ammo, or a heatsink or two. Not worth the mas dakka potential imo.

DHS is fine with me.

This is what I gained from an XL...JM6-S

Gains:
+8.2 kph
Heatsinks switched to doubles
+32 armor points
+1 ton of ammo

Losses:
Threat of side-coring due to XL (but then again, since armor isn't maxed out you're a glass cannon as it is)
The build's degree of suboptimal-ness has been reduced slightly

15 kph is a pretty huge improvement for a fragile mech, hell 1 kph is a benefit for walking tissue paper.

Note that the addition of DHS makes the mech far more heat efficient without requiring any additional heat sinks.

I did it when the jaeger first came out while UACs shot faster, I immediatly wrecked 2 mechs then ran out of ammo and was shredded. So its fun if you only want to fight for 1 minute per drop. Otherwise no.

i used to use a 4xUltra AC jag back when they were a little too good... would eat an atlas in about 3 seconds without a jam

got like 4 kills in about 12 seconds with it and got called a hacker coz of it...

And if you really want to be a nuisance go for LB 10-X AC. Those seem to be one of the most dangerous ballistic weapons out there right now. They don't jam or produce as much heat as a UAC/5, but regarding quad UAC/5:

JM6-S

This will increase your speed and make you much more survivable, but make sure you make your shots only when you know you can take them, since you will run out of ammo fast. Also to avoid overheating and jamming use chainfire. You won't get as much pinpoint damage, but you will get amazing DPS.

I ran something similar on my Ilya Muromets, but it was 3x UAC/5 with 2x ML.
