In 12 men we ask the other team if they want to let us doing our ritual combat. If they do not accept we fight vs them.
Once i accepted an open challenge from a veteran warrior of my Clan (now he is our Khan) coming back from a leave of absence. We had fought three times before we could end a duel. Every time the pugs interfered, and even the last time he conceded me the victory after an enemy Jenner attacked us.

I didn't need to.
I watched and admired the group.
Great fellows; wish I had joined them!
Ah, well...opportunity knocks but once...

If there were more pugs like you...

Typically PUG groups are intrigued and want to watch...though you do occasionally see situations where some punk does not want to adhere to it.

Personally I've seen it a couple of times (and partaken once) and most people seem to understand the concept.
As long as you pick a spot away from the main battle (like outside the HPG compound) I've not had a problem with it.
If you just want to go for it in the middle of a melee its more likely fire is coming in accidently from all sides as I suspect no ones going to looks at the names when selecting a target.
But sure, there are some trolls too.

If a 12-man of the Clan Wolf Alpha Galaxy happened upon another 12-man Clan who requested something similar, I do not see why our Drop Commander would refuse it.

That is not quite true BK, only a few have objected when we do it. Other than that, before the match starts we announce it to our team (team chat) and call out the two Warriors who will be fighting and no one so far has stepped in to try and stop it.

Those other players dropped into the game to have a match of 12 vs 12 mechwarriors. Not to drop and to only face against 10,5 opponents or with a teammate dead and one damaged against now superior equiped oponents.
You are not alone in the game, please always consider it your top priority that everyone has fun playing the game!

Edit: I only ever accept duels from the opposing team. Any same-side duelling is training done with Sibkin, and that is done only after a general chat announcement of said training. Almost all players who respond in those cases do so positively, remembering we were all new or inexperienced once.

I agree. In my mind, the only time for organized duelling (between clan-mates) is during 12-man sync drops, that way we avoid damaging the game for pugs. That does not prevent me from still wanting to duel in pug drops, just that I do not expect rules to be followed by everyone.
