I'm not actually in Palo Alto, but real estate is running $1180/sq.ft. That is US dollars / square foot, not square meter.
Where I am is a relatively cheap $800/square foot, which is why I rent.

People around here know that not everyone is a winner, and the real world does not give out trophies for participation.
For some time, prices in nearby Manhattan have been around $1600 per Sq. Ft. and even higher. I have read price per Sq. Ft. is not a good indicator to go by. I prefer Cost of Living calculators and I only like the one that goes by zip code, the others generalize areas too much lowering high cost areas and raising lower ones.

Seriously, if I wanted to collect stupid little achievements for random idiotic things in game I would go play kiddie games on Xbox and farm achievements in Pinata Party or whatever. LOL
When I am in a drop, PUG or dedicated 12, I am trying to WIN with the team, not worrying about getting the 5th crit on an ECM unit in a Raven that just ran by to get "ECM Masher" or whatever idiotic thing it will be called.....LOL
I guess MWO must be the only game you've played for the last few years. Otherwise you'd know that most games on PC, especially the ones on Steam, Origin or Uplay, have achievements. They are certainly not just for "kiddie xbox games". Many games use them to extend their life, provide fun little challenges, or encourage the player to try out new playing styles.
But the great thing about achievements is that, if you don't care about them, you can safely ignore them. They won't affect your game in any way, except for the occasional brief popup message when you accidentally unlock one. They won't spoil your game by making your teammates or enemies do stupid things, because as far as I can see, all of MWO's achievements require the player to just play normally (there are no "do 1000 damage with a flamer in one match" type achievements).

Not reaching an achievement won't affect your game experience in any way. If you don't want to work toward achievements, then don't. It's not going to penalize you if you don't reach the goal. But if you do, you'll get a reward.
I really don't understand the anger surrounding this new feature.

If I could grant you all the C-Bills anyway, I would.
You realize that if you wanted to, you actually COULD grant everyone those CBills, right?
I mean, they're bits in a server. It doesn't actually cost you anything to update the accounts of all the players. You used to do this on a routine basis back in closed beta.

This is indeed the case. It seems silly to make it seem like this is an unresolvable problem. I came back after a short hiatus largely for the contest and this bonus and come away highly disappointed, yet again.

Well firstly its unlikely that viterbi can adjust anything himself, each PGI member is isolated within a tiny holding cell and fed bread, water and lies by Overlord Bullock. Second for them to adjust ANYTHING in game the tech guys have to gas the hamsters and add more chewing gum, thus bringing down the servers for the most minor things (See: any tiny sale) so in the long run they would rather say they are sorry (their canadian, first word they learn after birth is Sorry and are then given a hockey stick.) than go through all the hassle of giving out free cbills.

After some calculations, it was estimated that they would have to go bankrupt if they did reward everyone with it.
More seriously, it's barely a free Heavy for everyone, without the slot. Maybe in the lot, a few would have bought an extra slot to buy a mech with that amount.

You got up to 400k cbills per matchx25(cadetbonus)=8Mio Cbills. There is no Bonus. Veterans got the ~8Mio after the cadetbonus made its way into the game.
