A suggestion for an 'escort mode':
The heaviest mech on either side is the escorted. Once this mech is destroyed the match ends. It gives teams the decision to leave the mech and try to destroy the enemy, or protect their own mech. A 'base defence' mode but with the base being mobile, and a player.
Sure, a lousy player can ruin a match, but thats true in any of the matches. Feel free to add suggestions, tips, or tweaks.
Sounds like fun to me!

but don't usually the heaviest mechs escort the other guys
though there would be far too many griefers if the outcome of the game is on one person moving in a line
A A.I command tank would be cool thho that could shoot with turrets

Consider it as... protect the commander?
However, from some of the behavior I have seen in game, this could easily be abused. One would have to find a way to keep it from being abused somehow. Otherwise, it's not too bad of a concept.
(Hint: Commanders normally piloted assault mechs, such as an Atlas or Cyclops as examples.)

I'd love a gamemode like this, especially since the Assault mode was just nerfed to Skirmish2.0.
But every 'meta' mech is already something of a 'pick class'. There'd need to be some sort of gimmick to keep the commander alive for more than 2 minutes. Maybe if you made it a 'keep commander alive for X minutes' sort of deal, and put the spawns in fortified positions.
Or give him 8 ERPPCs and hook him up to a coolant truck.

Could just have the Commander not be known to the enemy, but be known to it's allies. This makes it so the enemy can't target just the commander and pin point him down to death with concentrated fire...
