A whole $6.40 to the winner from each faction? A whopping $100 to be divided among 40 players? Whooo... steady.

Way to splash out PGI.

For those wondering why a faction tournament is solo, humor this: They're treating it like Solaris VII; many fight solo but usually do so for the honor of their respective house (assuming the Mechwarriors in question aren't rodeo clowns or Solaris arena champions)

This is a bit biased...there are no clan faction tags in game...so does that mean lone wolf counts as a faction? I refuse to wear IS tags, even for a contest for a cockpit item...

EDIT: Which raises another valid point, I still have 4 faction tags available from the Overlord Package...will I be able to use those to choose a Clan Wolf faction medallion?

It's laughable when you talk about the Overlord Package and wanting a clan medallion.

Did it say you would get one when you bought it?

No.

Then you don't get one.
It's NOT a valid point, you get what you pay for. Welcome to the Inner Sphere.

The creation of a solo challenge doesn't mean they are ignoring the group queue. The whole Launch module (which is orders of magnitude more effort) is all about the group queue. And when that goes live, they can start running team tournaments, which they've already stated they are going to do!

Actually it kind of does... I wouldn't have thought so either until they came out with their statement around the percentages of team drops and deciding not to support larger teams in mixed queues.

They are encouraging solo dropping, and use the encouraged numbers as a reason for dropping team support.

You have it backwards. Having something to do for solo players doesn't mean they are ignoring group players. Almost every single group player is also a solo player, so in reality this contest is for everyone.

They will have their own group player rewards with the tournament they are offering. These rewards are not a zero sum game; the existence of one reward does not mean they are ignoring the other side.

Don't forget this:

"All participants who play 10 matches will receive a free Gazelle Dropship cockpit item automatically!"

At least it's something. I don't know what the value is, but it's something you'd have to pay MC for normally.

Can't find anything about whether you need to solo drop or if 4-mans/12mans count.

also, FRR represent!

Right in the OP, solo drop for your faction.

Another Solo tournament. ;) This is getting comical PGI. Seriously where is a team tournament. Give us something valuable to do, a reason to team up.

Seems like a ridiculous rule for something called the Faction Challenge. :D

I'd say, but they haven't listened to this opinion for over a year now. It was supposed to be for Elo, so you have a reason to solo drop. But Matchmaker still sucks even with Elo, and yet we're still forced to solo in order to participate.

ggclose

Go fix your victor, he's as sluggish as a Atlas now in regards to twist. :(

Yeah, that's cool and all. I just laugh when I see a prize of $1.20 when some of us have dropped up to $99.95 on credit packs multiple times over, not to mention the extortionate costs of the various mech packages. You can't even buy a paint colour with 300 mc. I guess you can get a mech bay, or 1 day of premium time...

Neg, TEAM players, are not solo players. For example...I do not run solo drops...I did not partake in any of the "X vs. the world" BS for it...and I will not be partaking in any of this rubbish either.

They are SPECIFICALLY NOT catering to team players...

They already mentioned they are going to have a team tournament when the launch module goes live in April.

So, let me get this straight: You've never done a solo drop the entire time you've played MWO?

And they are catering to the teams, with the TEAM TOURNAMENT after the launch module goes live at the end of April.

I have, if you count training grounds...

Neg, 4 solo tournaments a year that preclude you from dropping as a team and then 2 tournaments in 3 years for teams is not "catering" to team players...dilute yourself further.

The whole launch module is catering to teams. They can't run team tournaments until is done, and they are doing it the second they are putting it in.

I suspect that you don't care what they do though, and instead anything that provides a service to someone else which you don't care about is going to be treated like an unacceptable slap to the face.

And that has what to do with this CURRENT tournament not being a Faction Team Based tournament. Oh wait it is a Faction Team Based tournament.... that you drop solo in.

Try moar kool-aid.

With a max drop of 4 and the need to know your enemy 12 man team in lobby matches, I fail to see how they can even have a "team" tournament.

Perhaps a 4 man Lance tournament, that might even be interesting. It would certainly be a step above these terrible tournaments, they even give you something for playing 10 matches hoping you will participate. That is how popular they are. ;)

Dude you are an epic white knight. How is it you think 3+3+3+3 with a hard cap of 4 per team is catering to teams. Catering to teams would be 1-12 drop. Bring what you got with who your with.

That would be a real challenge for solo players. And if the game had ANY resemblance of game balance it wouldn't be an issue.

The current matching and game is stale and boring. 50/50 of newbs and elites wandering the same match trolling each other. The solo tournaments weekends are some of the worst weekends to play the game. Nothing even close to a epic battle, just solo stat derping.

But enjoy it if you can.

Because the launch module will allow people to run matches of any size and with almost any limitations they want. That is exactly what teams are looking for. The whole launch module is ALL about making team play more viable.

So yes, teams between 1-12 people will be able to form up and run, just like you're asking for.
