Have they made people in the mercenary faction *not* show up in-game as lonewolves? And are lonewolves and mercenaries a valid faction selection for this tourney?

AFAIK, no.

LNW currently represents Mercs and Lone Wolves in-game and has yet to be "fixed".

I'm starting to wonder why this isn't even a premade+solo event, but just solo. It makes zero sense to me.

Tournament looks like a chance for the dev to test out Faction feature/coding in the backend.

Things like this are why you are seeing higher solo drops, not because of any natural occurrence.

I really like this as an alternative to the "vs. the world" tournaments, but one of these days you really need to encourage team play.
