Still working on my k/d. The last few days I've lost and lost and lost. What's going on? My teams get rolled.

When I look at the damage it doesn't seem like I'm backsliding. I do the same amount of damage and kills plus assists.

My team to behave in an at least semi coherent manner, displaying behaviour of an IQ at least on par with my pet kitten, Spooky. I'd also like them to not hide behind me, or any of the rest of the team. I might also like them to be able to at least vaguely aim in the general direction of the enemy without shooting a team mate in the back. Maybe just maybe I might expect them to push when it is needed to do so-instead of cowering behind anything that makes them feel safe.
And the last one is going to sound really crazy ready?
When a "rager" calls you on the above behaviour, have the grace to take it on the chin. If you hide and cower, watch your team die and generally not participate in the match to any useful degree-don't have the sheer cheek to get defensive. If you are a camper, you ARE hurting your team. If you build awful mechs-you ARE hurting your team, if you are too ignorant to listen to anyone-you ARE hurting your team, if you are to much of a coward to seek and engage-you ARE hurting your team.
You have no right to defense, take it on the chin and stop doing the naughty stuff-because if you are a repeat offender those nasty men will keep on at you till you stop.

I ha a guy rage at me once, instead of being all defensive and self entitled/righteous I sat back and thought...does he have a point? He did and I improved.
My blunt hyper rage is now over. Good night folks:P

Well, in the match in question, that I'm specifically referring to (and actually, I know that several pages back, we've had this more or less same discussion before ;) ), the circumstances were thus, which is why I thought the "rager" in question looked like a complete tool, the likes of which could have made the entire Swiss Army green with envy.

I was in a TDR-9S, more or less 3 x ER-PPC meta build. Trying to figure out if I even like it, since it seems highly recommended for CW IS drop decks, and I'd like to get better at CW deck building. I know at this point in time, I'm not the best sniper, but I'm getting better. I also know that I don't always have the best situational awareness, but overall, I do alright.

Myself, and a couple of other slow/long range mechs were bringing up the rear of the column, and I spot a few slow enemy mechs in the open in the water down and to our left, so I start taking a few pot-shots, cresting the hill, firing a burst our two, backing off, moving a bit to either side, and cresting again. Meanwhile the closer range/faster movers are moving up through the archway on the right. Now, from where I am, I can do one of two things basically. 1). Suppress the mechs in the water and try to keep them from joining up with the main enemy force, while taking the occasional shot at the rear of the enemy force that is set to engage our team moving through the archway. 2). Move up behind the column into the clusterbucket at the archway where I get no clean shots at anyone, and most likely "add to the pile", restricting movement for friendly mechs in the bottleneck.

I chose number 1). thinking that I could parlay that into a flanking maneuver potentially, or move up with the friendlies as needed, using range to assist.

Again, I'm not the best sniper, and I don't know that my sniping was as effective as I hope to make it one day with practice, but I felt I had a decent handle on the battlefield situation. At least 2 other mechs hung back with me, no idea what went through their heads, but I know what went through mine. I do know the other mechs were also firing at the mechs in the water though, at least.

1st Rager guy (who is in front, and who I have no LoS to), seems to charge in full bore with no verbal cue in chat at least, and gets killed pretty quickly. He then proceeds to blame his death on the cowards hiding in the back (not sure if he meant myself and the other ranged mechs, or mechs behind him in the cluster), and everyone else on our team more or less.

2nd Rager guy, who also dies quickly, then starts observing players left alive and being all sorts of mean to them in chat.

Meanwhile, the player who does not apparently speak English primarily that I mentioned, but who was trying very hard to coordinate a plan, and promote teamwork, is sniping in his TDR-9SE from the hill to my right. 2nd Rager guy starts to make fun of his english (classy guy, right?).

One by one we all die, until all that's left is the non-English guy.

By then 1st Rager has quit in "disgust", and 2nd Rager continues to just be a jerk, as though if we'd all somehow listened to the words that he hadn't even said, we'd have won, since obviously he's such a "tactical genius" and "skilled pilot".

These types of guys, and this type of behavior, are the people I don't mind seeing suffer, since in my opinion, they deserve it. :P

And when the match score popped up, and the 2 Ragers were near the bottom in score and stats, and the non-English guy was absolutely our best player in the game score and stat-wise, it felt...right. :D Did I have the best match of my life? No way! Could I have played it better? Absolutely! Did I "cost us the match"? Probably not, I really don't think so. Could I have contributed more? Definitely.

But...and this is just addressed to the community at large, not specifically at anyone here.

If you're in a column, and you intend to charge, but don't signal it in any way, don't be all upset and surprised that you charged alone. Conversely, if someone does call a charge, don't wimp out and hide in the back while they charge alone.

My point is if you don't communicate, don't be mad when people don't do what you want them to, and if people do communicate, try to contribute or at least play along.

And seriously, is there really any real reason to be an Assbucket? Really? I mean, reasons to be frustrated? Sure. Reasons to assume you're awesome and it's everyone else's fault? Maybe. Reasons to make fun of the way someone else talks, in a game played internationally, that needs all the players it can get? Never. And reasons to rage out and spew more nonsense than Kanye West on Twitter before quitting like a Firestone Tire in the year 2000? Seriously people? <_<

To be fair Rip your example isn't the typical. What usually happens is team will start to go then hang back, so those that did go get murdered. the range game is the dominant style of play sadly, and people sadly don't realise what they are doing when they do it.
Every second in combat you hang that far back, a team mates is taking your damage quota. so that means you have to be useful to keep them alive. After all, they are tanking damage on your behalf. As long as you are moving, getting to that good position that will let you put the damage on target and keep your damage soak alive then it's all good.
If you are cowering though, it is on you. You cannot blame someone for getting angry if another deliberately lets them down:)

I rage, I'm one of those nasty people. Sometimes I'm sorry for it. Mostly not. I'll never swear at you nor call you obscene names, nor say anything about your family etc but I will call you on camping, or cowering. If you stand about watching your mates die. I'll say something. If you back off because you got shot once, letting the two guys in front of you die-I'll say something.
One of the reasons I'm dreading voip. How many times can I say "move up please" before I smash my face into my desk?

Why does it always have to be the same guy from the previous matches who blames the team?
Like i hear one guy whining all the time.

Annoying little man. I told him to shut it.

He whined more after i said that.

I'm with you in this whine.

Just read 3 - 4 posts in "Mark 2 event" about "how suck my team"..... the sad thing is that I saw him in at least 3 matches.... and I can say he really really suck, doing less than 200 dmg and passing half time harassing teamates in chat :D

hey doing damage and contributing to the team only cuts down on his chat time harrassment you know. priorities people!

You know someone whining or raging may simply be a failure of the other people to interpret what they are typing -- often times non-verbal communication is misinterpreted because vocal nuance is non-existent.

In a CW game
How I intended it:

<calm clear voice providing instruction>"Standing at the back of the map and firing LRMs during an organized rush doesn't help. If you are going to use LRMs be within 400m or don't bring them"

how the guy interpreted it:

<rage><rage><rant>"you suck"<rage> "get a better mech loser!" <whine>

My next statement:

<calm clear voice after all the gens are down and omega is exposed and we are down by 12 kills and they are all in fresh mechs and we are battered> "Guys the game is pretty much over -- our only chance is to just try to kill as much as we can and earn exp and cbills."

His response:

"Quit your whining and STFU. Learned to play!"

My response:

<Sigh> <shoot at anything that looks dangerous>

at the end of the game, which was not very long past the exchange, I had 10 kills and 1800 damage and the next nearest player on my team... 3 kills ~750 damage. The LRMr was ~450 damage and no kills.

Pugs, afraid to push ahead and afraid to support those people who do push ahead results in stomp after stomp after stomp. I can't remember who wrote that you have to play aggressive to win -- but its true more often than not.

Calling a spade a spade is one thing

Breaking the rules about what kind of language is another entirely.

There are - after all - polite ways to call someone a ******* without breaking any rules or getting in trouble for it.

Just takes actually thinking about the words you are using. ;)

I know, and it's funny, I swear if you go back in this thread, almost point for point, we're having the same conversation we had before.

I don't think either of us necessarily disagrees with the others viewpoint really, I'm simply stating that, calling out players for poor behavior, on a strategic level (dealing an overabundance of careless friendly fire, failing to support the charge, wandering off by oneself and not paying attention, chasing the laser pointers, etc.), or a personal level (needlessly denigrating other players, shifting blame to mask ones own poor performance, purposefully TK'ing, calling out teammates coords to enemies, trolling, etc.) may BOTH be called for from time to time, but sometimes in the first case of poor playing, it's simply that the player is new, or young (there are kids that play this game), or old (there are old folks that play this game), and could possibly/probably be corrected with the right approach. Whereas, in the second case of poor playing it's generally just that the player is an *******, and 9 times out of 10 there's no fixing that. ;)

And I don't think it's recommended to allow yourself to fall into either category generally speaking.

Sometimes i like to break stuff in a rage. It feels good, then a few moments later you are sorry that you broke that specific thing.

Oh, humanity!

(Joking, i don't rage. Most of the time i am more of a dissappoint- guy.) :)
