Funnily enough, I didn't get killed by fire - either friendly or enemy.

I shut down in that spot after, and got rammed by an unsuspecting enemy Locust. That was enough to take out my remaining leg.

It is probably not a good thing when you play a GAME for 30 minutes and get done feeling angry and stressed out. Kinda defeats the purpose of a GAME. I obviously am not tier 3 material. last week I almost always broke 400 damage with some kills and 700-800 wasn't uncommon. Now in tier 3 I can't break 100, and can't find a team that lasts more than 3 minutes or does anything beside camp.

I find that the game at Tier 3 and above often devolves into a poke fest among the heavies/mids/assaults.

I assume that you were playing the SPL locust. If this is the case, then the rules of engagement are very different to those of Tier 4 and Tier 5, especially when you get lumped with T1/T2's. Unlike lower tiers, you literally need to do nothing for the first two or three mins except for finding the enemy and marking them if possible. Once the battle is joined and enemies are bogged down (as are your allies) you can then move in and start your ankle biting routine.

Or you could grab a PNT, KFX or RVN and join in with PPCs/ERPPCs/LLs. If you can't beat them, join them, perhaps...?

Knowing when to commit is very important. It makes or breaks games completely.
Positioning is also JUST as important, if not more, than accurate gunnery as you start climbing the rungs of the ladder.

As my old unit leader said, seeing someone put up huge damage numbers is all great, but the takeaway is that those people are NEVER out of position. That's the key. Not Pro-MLG gunnery.

I could be hacking and hitting everything, but if I stand out in the open, I'm dying in the second minute anyway as the hail of lead tears my face off. That's the beauty of this game.

A mic headset is 5 bucks. Get one and use it. Damn sick of people not talking. Any input is better than me talking to myself.

And! Pug FW drop. Pugs v Pugs. We got one wave killed at 16 minutes in. And we were down one wave. If my kids hadn't been sleeping... Well... And we had one player whining he had been shot in the back by a stormcrow (and killed) when he isolated himself. Sure, half of the team was behind him. I was leading a solo charge when I thought I had backup. The half alive was lurms. He died and finally turned on his mic and just ranted and raved. Then threatened to TK us if he saw anyone backing up. Another light and I were standing behind him waiting to take his legs off if he TKed someone, but he didn't. Lost my last mech and bailed from the match. Charge me ten seconds, whatever. Many reports were sent. Too bad they don't count for anything.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. Unfortunately, all PvP, moba-style games are like this - full of rude and useless morons and frustrating defeats. If you go the route of elitist guild-member and devote your life to the game, it gets much better (speaking not from personal experience but from that of various people whom I know).
What I do is play as long as the games are victorious and the defeats are proper, hard-fought battles in which the enemy proves better. After the Xth despicable and pathetic defeat (X varies according to the game), I simply log out and go on with my life outside the moron-infested PvP.

Curiously, another guy had posted that Tier 3 was the best experience he had in this game and that going to T2 had ruined it.

In a more clear headed moment of reflection, I believe the problem is that the game actually plays very different for some reason when you jump a tier. I have spent the past year moving from tier 5 through tier 4 and, as a pug, become accustomed to certain movement patterns and "tactics" (good or bad) that all seem different now in tier 3. In tier 4 there is a lot more random scattering that works to your advantage of it is the opposing team or against you on your team. Fast, striker style builds mitigate this and you can basically do a lot of strike and fade or backstabbing on the enemy stragglers. In Tier 3 (so far) it requires a lot more caution (not my forte) and the movement is either camp and long range poke or nascar. Trying to push while your team camps is a death sentence and in a nascar falling into the back third of the team is a death sentence (if you aren't fast enough to escape). I think my main problem so far is that I haven't learned how to read tier 3 pugs as well as I could in tier 4. But there is definitely a lot less forgiveness, so I have gone from lasting until the end of most matches to being the second or third death in most matches.

My whine for the day:

Assault starts to push through a choke point, around a corner, etc.

The assault has plenty of support with them just waiting to get the angle and maneuver room to support the push.

The assault gets their paint scratched with a few lasers/ACs, etc.

Assault stops...in the choke point.

Assault begins to back up...into his team.

The assault dies, the next in line dies, and the next, and the next, etc. Game over, defeat snatched from the jaws of victory.

Morale of the story? If you are an assault with support backing you up and you start to push: DON'T STOP AND FOR GOD'S SAKE DON'T BACK UP! You may die, but while the enemy are busy killing you all of your buddies will kill them...see how that works?!? It works...trust me.

One a related note:

Assault starts to push. Support pushes out with them. Assault starts to get shot so what does Assault do? Back out of the fight leaving his support to get their faces stomped in.

Again, if you are and Assault, have support and pushing, then push and DO NOT STOP!

Thank you...I feel better now.

So many bad assault builds....

"I'm a sniper 100t assault mech"
"I'm a LRMer"
"I have 20 er-mls and I alpha them every time..boom!"

CW event.
proves who is really to blame on the bad state of it
nothing but the players that got no clue.
i had to read so much ******** from a dude that i exploded like a volcano in chat
*check damage!* he then said. 712 for him against 1653 from me.
called me a coward while i was the only one pushing into the enemy while the rest shat pants. still killed a kdk solo with my highlander.
his last words: *you are nothing* and instantly disconnected.

totally worth playing CW with nothing but such failures

So, I have been on the receiving end of a ton of team damage lately. 2 tk's and most of a RT in 3 out of my last 5 matches. Is this the norm and I have been spared from it until lately, or just a streak of bad luck?

Also, I am getting better at staying in the Deathball, but boy you need to be careful you don't mistake all those blue ba--er--circles for friendlies that will push with you when you have a numbers advantage. They are actually using you as a meat shield. Once I realized this everything got better :D

wrong. most mechs had a screen that compressed a 360° view into 160° or so.
sadly, we cant have that here and it would propably a utter mess to play like that lol
