those of you using the i7-3770k (at stock 3.5ghz) with a video card somewhere on scale with a gtx 660ti how is your game performance?

i am looking from going from a i5-3470 to the i7 i am tired of crap fps and degrading game quality each patch... i have noticed the guys posting with i7's seems to have very little in the way of performance issues.

I am currently rebuilding my system from an I7 3770S with Intel HD 4000 graphics to a micro Itx with a gt750 ti. I can testament to that processor can run this game on its own with integrated graphics given you have enough memory. So yes it runs this game phenomenally. You also have the choice on that model of overclocking it where I don't. Enjoy it love that processor.

I run on a i7 3770K with GTX660, 60+ frames on max settings.

Truthfully, OP, there should be no large performance gain moving from an i5-3470 to an i7-3770k at stock clocks. It's only 300 mhz of clock speed (about 9% performance improvement), because MWO doesn't care about the four extra threads.

If you want real benefit from that 3770k, then buy an aftermarket air cooler, even something like this, and do exactly what the k chips do that warrants the extra price tag: overclock. If you manage to hit the 4ghz range, which is childishly easy, you shouldn't drop below 60fps, basically ever, unless you start screwing with DX11 (it's not ready yet).

I'm running i7-3770k on MSI Mpower MB, 32 gigs ballistic tracers ram, and MSI 670GTX OC addition. Running with stock overclock from MSI control center (4.5-4.8ish ghz). I'm running 80-95 fps in open spaces and 59-65 fps in very crowded areas. Running EVO radiator (air cooling) 5 case fans. Never come close to thermal peaks temps.

Edit: Forgot to mention running DX11. IN Dx9 I was 110-120 fps.

Its not going to improve that much, to be honest. I think there are z77 mainboards that'll let you overclock your non-k processor. The i7 isn't "faster" than a similarly clocked i5, it just has more available threads (which MWO doesn't use). I've tested MWO with a bunch of videocards (from a GTS250 that I found in my garage to a titan) and cpu speed made much more of a difference. I went from stock 3.5 to 4.8 (water cooled) and the cpu speed adjustments made the biggest difference.

unfortunately i have a MSI mobo with a h61 chipset, ive been fiddling with MSI control center to see if it will allow me to up the multiplier, which i think i have upped to x36... if you have any advice on that scenario it would be greatly appreciated

There isn't a multiplier adjustment in the bios/UEFI interface somewhere?

No, that chipset was designed for business use, so the BIOS likely doesn't have any overclocking options.

It sounds like the thing to do is pair that GPU upgrade with a motherboard upgrade, then. An Asrock Z77 Extreme 3 can be had for about $90. I don't know if there's anything cheaper that would work.
