Knowing you will have to pay to repair any damage on your Mech can encourage a different style of play.
Why not use the Repair and Rearm code to implement a new game mode that offers higher rewards for higher risks? In the Salvage Contract game mode, the players' Mechs would take damage that must be repaired at their own expense, but players would receive much higher rewards for victory.
This would more closely resemble mercenary contracts in the BattleTech universe, where mercenaries frequently are given a choice between whether they want a contract with a small payout and full repairs covered by their employer or a big payout when they are required to pay for their own expenses.
It would be necessary to make Trial Mechs ineligible for this game mode.

This would only work if the program can track for the final tally how much damage your Mech incurred in percentage or in destroyed components.
And then it would obviously depend on how the repair-costs are calculated, because some Mechs would be horrendously expensive to repair: XL + big guns

How is this not essentially a split queue for R/R?

Greetings all,
Most contracts in the Lore and stories did not provide the "Salvage" as a option. Jump-Ship Transport was paid for to the location, it was the units responsibility to provide the Dropship. This is where the problem arises, Having the weight limit for your Mech Company did not leave a lot of room for carrying return "Salvage".
Normally the Issuer of the contract had full salvage rights as it was their Planet in their territory. And any new Tech was a much greater benefit to the owner than his hired merc's. If the contract was for a Raid into foreign or Enemy territory there probably would not be the time to gather "Salvage" or the transport for it. (unless that was the objective.)
Without having different servers running IS only and mixed Clan/IS match's the Salvage would be the same as the current market offers. And in better condition. The stats are currently tracked on who does what and which components are damaged/destroyed. Bring these into the endgame as rewards for individual players may lead to boating only high ballistic Ac's for there component destruction capability. (and no one want more of that.)
This is a very interesting game mode idea, but requires quite a bit more information on how Salvage would be "Acquired" at the end screen. And will it only work for Faction players? What happens for a Clan player? How does this dynamic change for the Merc Corp.?
