Causing Damage to knock people over never was, nor never will, be in this game. Just running into someone and knocking them over was trolling enough, and we have goons to blame for its removal.

I read a transcript of the Rus interview in the "MWO In the News" forum. If it's correct, it sounds like they're actively working on collisions, so your prayers may be answered soon!
I make similar offerings each time I drop with a UAC...

I prefer to think of it as 'we have goons to thank for it's removal'.
While it made it more like BT (a game where the weapons are so inefficient it is often better to punch each other or hit each other with trees) I didn't think it really added a lot to Mechwarrior.

Back in MW4 you could run into somebody, but would only scratch the armor. To knock somebody over through physical contact, you needed to perform a DFA, which was made tricky on purpose. Knockdowns through weapons fire was only possible when you exceeded a certain damage threshold per alpha. In case of Assault Mechs it was triple digits and usually reserved to some really nasty configs.

And I can't wait for Highlanders to actually break their legs after using all their jump power to get up, without softening the fall.

That way, if a Light Mech wants to collide with a Assault Mech during a drive by, it might lose 30-40 points of armor, distributed equally down the whole side of the affected Light Mech (Arm, (L or R) Torso and Leg). Then that will dissuade much of this "Rambo Light" craziness we see now.
Mediums and Assaults colliding would suffer damages appropriate to who they run into. Make a rule, they who are going the fastest take the brunt of the distributed damage, (60-40) while equal speeds equal split damage distribution (50-50). Friendly collisions get reduced values. (-70%).
