I only offer it once, if he refuses, so be it. There'll be plenty of hostiles on the battlefield either way.

Okay, since we're at 13 members and growing, I guess you can the SwiftSlayers (our corp) as an affiliated unit. Give us whatever "official" unit designation you would like (fire support, recon, whatever) and I'll add it to the corp designation.

Head on over to the Dragoons forum. I don't feel that it's necessary to give you an official designation, especially since canon units and sub-units are off-limits.

The funny thing is that I've used that nickname for years and years before Battletech ever adopted it for a mech. Technically speaking, it's supposed to be Galloglas, but it's been spelled any number of different ways. I originally took the name because it's the name of a certain group of Irish mercenaries.

All that being said, the Gallowglass mech was indeed very cool. :P

i may have my mech lore wrong, but were the wolf's dragoons the first in the inner sphere to "greet" the clans on their return?
and so the first to get clan tech?

i may be wrong about this.

Ehh... not exactly, they were the most prepared though on first contact. Many units were there to greet the Clans on the opening phases, the Dragoons one of the biggest.

The Clan sent the Dragoons to the Inner Sphere to measure them and see how they were faring, also to gather intel. They were basically spies of sorts. The Dragoons posed as mercenaries and worked for each of the great houses. Eventually (after the Clan invasion) Jaime Wolf called a meeting of all the House leaders and informed them of his unit's origins. They did not initially battle the Clans. I believe they remained apart from the war until this meeting.

The Dragoons had been prepping for the Clan Invasion for over a decade. Khan Ward in the presence of Ulric Kerensky had given Jamie Wolf secret orders to prepare the Inner Sphere for war with the Clans. Khan Ward, felt diplomacy in the Grand Council was not going to enough to stop the invasion, the Wardens could no longer contain the crusader sentiment. So, designs for Clan Wolf Omnimechs where given to the Dragoons, intel on Outreach was given to them regarding the lost Star League production facilities and such.

During the Invasion of the Clans, the Dragoons pull escape clauses on all contracts and returned to Outreach. There, they had a closed meeting to decide their actions in the impending conflict. While there orders were to help the Inner Sphere defend against the Clans, they also did not want to see the Clans destroyed. Remember, many of the Dragoons are still Clan decedents, born of the Clan homeworlds. In the end the Dragoons agreed as a whole to help the Inner Sphere indirectly, then later on Luthien then would help directly. But the Dragoons had destroyed any information that might be used to destroy the Clans, like star charts to the Clan homeworlds. So it's interesting to note that before the Clan invasion the Dragoons have the technical means to manufacture Clan Wolf specific Omnimechs and Clan Weapons. Though, their output even in 3050 is pretty limited to my understanding.

The Black Widow (Training) Battalion had been since 3037 directed to help the re-building Wolf's Dragoons train for the Clan Invasion. And it is at this point the Battalion is reorganised Clan fashion, into a Cluster.

Just as a note of clarification. When Clan Wolf Khan Kerlin Ward issued the Wolf's Dragoons secret orders in 3019 Ulric Kerensky did not have a bloodname, he did not get one until 3041. But he had been kind of like Kerlin Wards protege. But I've used his bloodname so to make it more obvious who I am talking about.

Now, is this all in the fluff novels or the core gamebooks?

Makes sense. I'm reading through the fluff right now. On book 5, Warrior: En Guard.

I think most writers live a little bit inside the books they write. I'd almost like to see what some of these authors writing battletech actually had in mind, because today's mechs you see don't have any of those hand-held medium or large lasers, and there hasn't actually been any description of torso rotation in any of the books I've read.

You have no idea, I think I have a definite bleedoff problem. (That is where the personality inside of the story, begins to manifest itself inside of the author.)

ON FURTHER NOTE: This can work both ways.
