Apologies if this has be answered before, but when an InnerSphere mech has locked on a clan mech such as the Summoner or a Warhawk, would it simply show up as THOR or MASAKARI on the targeting system, Instead of shortened names like AS7 or HBK for an Atlas or Hunchback? ;)
Though am naturally assuming Clan mech targeting systems would name other clan mechs by their original names.

As far as I know, PGI has not said anything in regards to this.

Also I forgot to mention, do targeted clan mechs display configurations? Since clan mechs use "alt. config X" for their mechs instead of DDC or 4P like I.S. Mechs do. Since I'm Assuming mechs would be sold like config A,B or C. ect.

Or will it be just handled diffrently?

The clan mechs will probably be called by whatever name they show as in the mech lab, so players with less experience with BT can figure out which mech is which.

Presumably they'll be called by their names, since that's what the mechs are, rather than the nicknames, but then again, every single dev asked their opinion on the matter has said they are diehard IS guys.

Their names sounds a bit too long to display in-game.. I am moure curious, anyway, about wheter they will use Clan designations, IS designations (most likely) or both (different for factions, i would love it but very unlikely).

At this point, I am sure not even PGI knows how they would handle any of this.

I personatly hope that for the IS mech, the name will be the IS one.

And for the Clan mech.
The clan name will be displayed.
It would be the logical solution.

Indeed. I am no programmer, so I might be talking entirely out my arse, but one would imagine that the name of the mech can be given a value, and if using an IS mech it pulls up one value and if using a Clan mech it pulls up another. Of course, then you would need to go ahead and put in the new line that even allows it to reference that in the existing IS mechs and the future Clan mechs.

hehe selection in the options. I can check for Clan Names or uncheck for IS names, default IS name is on... because IS and PGI ;)

Options checkbox would be the best solution I believe. Mind the community and the little hearts who couldn't live without seeing "Daishi" and "Ryoken" in game. It would also help to reduce the ammount of doubt about specific chassis because while M4 games created a whole group deeply into clan Mechs, it didn't do well in teaching them the proper names, only IS designations.

No matter the name clan or the is nickname, a rose is still a rose anywhere its just these roses have longer thorns. But i would love the clan names as default since people need to learn them.

I was hoping the Clan mechs would have names on the IS radar read out that read things like : "Run away", "Ur gonna die", "Flee you fool", and "Just lie down"

But where does the "MAD" and "CAT" come from? There is no Marauder for "MAD" in MW:O and the Catapult is "CPLT" not "CAT". ;)

Honestly i think it would be possible to tie the designation to chassis (yes, i like to force complications on people when imaging game dynamics): if you are piloting an IS chassis, of course you will see the IS designation some scared FRR, DC or FC soldier gave them; but if you are piloting a Clan 'Mech (does not matter if you are a Clan warrior or an IS pilot with costly bough salvaged Omnies) your HUD displays the Clan designation.

This could be esplained by the software of the interface of Clan OmniMechs not being fully understood yet (in 3051 reverse-engineering had made some progresses, but if they will reboot the timeline there will be no doubt about it) and thus the designation in the battle computer cannot be changed. This would force people to learn both the designations: otherwise, one of them (probably the Clan one) will be not used and almost forgotten..

I really liked that explanation - so consider this a second "like"

I honestly would like to see if your piloting an IS mech it would come up with the IS name and if it's a clan mech your piloting it pops up with the true clan name.
