Just got a game with 2 kills 10 assists, 460 something damage with just a single PPC as my poptart weapon. It kind of goes to show how broken PPC/AC poptarting is in this game.

I play dual LL, 1xML with my 3L, ERLL seem to be too hot. I play closer than other 3L pilots probably, so as I play, the ER doesn't do much for me. But I kind of want to spectate a good 3L pilot who use the more common ERLL build to see how they do it.

You have seen this already, i shows what a dual ERLL Raven can do.
Need some heat Mgmt..

Luckily my opponents generally bad.

I highly doubt I have been able to manage my light armour well enough to reach the end.. With the current OP-LRM...

I find that if you run the 4X with big guns and a small engine you are asking to be dog meat. I have had my fun with the AC20 version, but it is not going to be much more than a joke build. Enemy lights are going to have a field day with you.

Even if you stick to your group as fire support you will eventually come into the situation where your heavy/assaults are shot out beneath you and your slow little raven gets torn up, or most likely you have somebody charging you for the "easy kill" compared to the heavy/assault you have attached yourself to.

140 KMH is fast enough to keep out of the way and run from the occasional streak boat, or get to some heavier support should you find yourself facing a bunch of lights.

The 3L currently shines with 2xERLL. The new Go-to light (for non-Jenner fanatics), the Ember, shines because of its Laser-MG combo. The below "All-rounder" RVN-4X is a nice mix of both of these mechs with 1ERLL for sniping shots as well as 1ML + 2MG for "knife fighting" and crit seeking. There is nothing the 4x can do that the 3L or FS9-E could do better, but this is about as good as it gets. AC5/UAC/AC20/etc. builds will be situationally usefull, but the below was pretty consistent while I was using it.

All-rounder

The first mech I bought was the 4X. I wanted some variety. As you have seen above, everything from an AC 20 to MG, PPC, LPL, ERLL, LL, ML, MPL, SL, SPL. ssrm'S, SRM'S, LRM;S.

You can have a mech with LRM's for in the beginning and later come in with MPL's with MG's for crits. The JJ are interesting on the Raven, and add to this birds flavor. I mastered the 4X over a year ago and still like to take it out from time to time, AC 2's are fun, but I still like the LRM 10 2xMPL's, 2xMG's with a 210XL, BAP and one JJ. After 36 shots or maybe before I can jump into the brawl and exploit a torso or two.

Yeah right Shin, with your light Elo? But that 3L pilot was pretty terrible at hitting your open ST.

You're right it would be harder with LRMs currently as it is. Even when I jump snipe in this 4X, enemies are still able to get locks on me and hit occasionally if they're close enough.

Also, most of the ERLL shots in the video are 450m or under, so I didn't quite see how the ER would have helped in this case.

Id have to agree with all of this, and you build is most definitely interesting.......I just may end up trying it out.......

Well the thing is since you can't choose your opponents or the maps. It is generally more useful for lights to sniper type weapons as the ELO level goes up. Reason being is you will always want to hit and run but from long range..
Punish big and slow mechs that is attacking your team mates... If they start to turn you can hide...
General idea is to be annoying, distract people and cause lots of damage while taking as little damage as possible. (If they ignore you or can't fine you because you are >800M shoot them in the back some more !)
This is the light ERLL sniper style.. Very deadly in the late game if many of your opponents are half dead.

Just let a light be a light.

Run it with the max XL, 3xJJ, 2xMG + 1ton MG ammo, 1xSRM4 + 1ton SRM ammo, 1xLL, 1x ML. Max armor, endo steel, ferro fibrous, double heat sinks

You'll go 140 KPH after speed tweak (like all lights, it will be rough before speed tweak) and have a good amount of firepower.

Raven 4x is a solid mech and a good time.

The 2x however....

I came to love my 4X and now play it more than my 3L. I went the focused role route and equiped 2x AC/2s. Stripped off the right arm armor, no JJ's (I know, crazy) to make room for more ammo. Then I paint in battleship gray so it doesn't stand out. :) It's just this little, non-assuming, non-ECM mech that isn't throwing out big beams or light balls to draw attention, sitting behind cover and a line of bigger mechs.

Both the AC/2s are mounted high and on the left side. Perfect for hull-down firing. Even if your cover is the friendly stalker in front of you. But, most assault pilots don't mind when suddenly you you go Chainsaw mode on their target and rip holes in them. It's no guarantee by any means, but I can regularly rack up 400 some-odd damage in a round with kills. Typically against bigger mechs.

Worst case is getting jumped by a pair of enemy light mechs. But, it's 2 against 1, you'd be hosed if all you had were medium lasers and Streaks too. Even one can be a threat; but I've gotten good enough that I can land bursts of AC/2 on a circling light inside 50 meters. A few solid hits and most will peel off for cover.

Pro-tip: You ammo is limited and once it's gone, your nothing more than a moving target. Don't go chasing long-range, low percentage shots. Wait, be patient, and light into someone when they aren't paying attention to you and already in an exchange with another mech. Close enough that you can be sure to put each round into the same location to tear through quick.

The Raven is one of the best 'mechs out there (and not just because it's an original House Liao design, but that helps)!

The 4x is one of the better weapons platforms, and the Gatekeepers can field whole squadrons of them.

You're not alone!

Hey Shin, I'm liking the dual ERLL setup for the 4x. Put in Adv Sensor for good measure. I'm playing farther away than usual and that's helping me stay alive longer.

Exactly.. Do you realise how tiny you are from 700M away ? Any how annoying it is find where ever the hell that ERLL beams came from ?... That's the fun of it.. Beam.. Move... Beam.. Move... Like PEEF said by the end if the match if you did 500 damage.. You did your job as a light.. And I agreed too..

Ohh I forgot to mention one thing... Be careful of Dual gauss and Advance Zoom...
Refer to 3min 5sec in this video.. This can happen.

I stole and I stole.... And things go bump in the night...

Lasers HSR is still trash... But Ballisitcs hit detection is really good most of the time now... R4X PPCs + JJ + XL255.
Do you love it when you get you are hunting.. ?
Kills I liked the most... The ECM Raven that I could hardly see and that Locust that nearly got into my <90M range.

Should be up in an hour:

I ran 2xPPC for a while but it was way too hot on a lot of maps. But nothing is impossible in the hands of Shin :P

1 ER Large laser, 1 small pulse laser, two machine guns, and I think I might have BAP equipped.

Also, of course, you may want to replace the MGs with something, but, the other day I did pretty well in a battle only using the lasers.

The 4X, first mech I bought and still run.

The one part is it can run crazy builds. Even back in 2012 I was running 2 AC 2's, Two (ER)LL's, gauss, AC 20, and other auto cannons.

Before with the engine restricted to 245, There were more options, to run at max speed and still from time to time with this bird I slap in the 245 XL.

With the 275 XL I am running generally the stock weapons load out, but with BAP and AMS. If I want LRMs, I just use the 245 XL and replace the SRM 6 with an LRM 10.

I run mine with 2 large pulse lasers. Pop out from behind a rock and BAM! then I'm gone again until BAM! another strike from behind some other rock. It works great in areas where you can hide behind cover and cool off between shots. Often I can core a much larger mech in just a few rounds without taking much of any damage. It's similar to an AC20 build in the way it delivers lots of pinpoint damage, but different in that it doesn't suck by being too slow, relying on ammo, or cutting down on armor. Its weakness is heat, but you're fast enough that you can typically get away and cool down when you need to.

It took me a long time to find a sweet setup for this mech, but once I did, the 4x became awesome for me. I tried ERLLs, I tried AC2s, but foudn that both are either done better by other mechs or simply didn't perform well enough.

So now I drive this: RVN-4X - it can fight lights, it can support the big guys, and it can move fast and jump. According to my stats, it's one of my best mechs.

Here improved...

Less padding and armour for more speed and 10 full 2.0 DHS.
