It's probably the cost of buying and outfitting a specific medium 'mech.
Or just an inside joke at PGI.

Who really knows?

It's a special secret code for the game. If you use that as your pilot name, you start out automatically on the second quest.

18.888 was a share of a dropship, I think.

Yes, but that's what it takes to buy into a Mercenary unit. 12 shares of 18.8 million C-Bills each.

It is not a prime number: isprime(11328987) = False
413 results on Bing; 5360 on Goodle search (the majority are foreign links) - the most interesting is related to SortedByName.com that starts off with Death Master File Says, Died 1981 (didn't Battletech start around this time - bah, FASA Corp started in 1984)?
The numbers added up equal 39
When using the numbers pad, it is only the top three and bottom 3 numbers
if you subtract the first 2 digits, and then add the next, subtract the next and so on, it equals 1 (1-1+3-2+8-9+8-7 = 1) - one is the lonilest number that you'll ever need!
the following google map coordinates: 11.328987, 78.982311 - which incidently, may be roughly the direction the flight out of Malaysia could have headed to when it did a hard turn through the Malacca Straits (Conspiracy Theory)

Other interesting facts:
The Number value of the number 11328987 is 11328987
The Cosine value of the number 11328987 is -0.19523712224519
The Hyperbolic Cosine value of the number 11328987 is INF
The Binary value of the number 11328987 is 101011001101110111011011
The Hexadecimal value of the number 11328987 is acdddb
The Octal value of the number 11328987 is 53156733
The Degrees to Radian value of the number 11328987 is 197728.12406563
The Exponent value of the number 11328987 is INF
The Logarithm value of the number 11328987 is 16.242875220357
The Radian to Degrees value of the number 11328987 is 649103141.25858
The Sine value of the number 11328987 is 0.98075606860086
The Hyperbolic Sine value of the number 11328987 is INF
The Square Root value of the number 11328987 is 3365.8560575283
The Tangent value of the number 11328987 is -5.0234097763907
The Hyperbolic Tangent value of the number 11328987 is 1 (and again, this is the reason!)

So, my quess is, that PGI is playing a game with us on this one, as the definition of a Hyperbolic Tangent might refer to this Forum, in general, and the posts therein.

Hyperbolic is an adjective describing something that resembles or pertains to a hyperbola (a curve), or to hyperbole (an overstatement or exaggeration).
The first definition of a tangent was "a right line which touches a curve, but which when produced, does not cut it".

Coincidence?

QUOTE FROM PATCH NOTES:
* New Bonus called Cadet Bonus: this bonus is rewarded to new users for 25 games. The math is calculated by: log10(gamesremaining) * 300,000 CBills
* This means you will receive 424,492 C-Bills after your first match, decreasing each game until you've played 25.
* After 25 matches you will have received a total of 7,981,686 additional C-Bills.
* If you have already played more than 25 matches, you will be given those 7,981,686 C-Bills as a lump sum (Happy Holidays!) If you've played under it, you'll be given the amount equal to the games you've played.

Seems like the most likely meaning.

The hyperbolic tangent of any extremely large number is 1 (actually it's not exactly 1, it's just very, very close to 1). This is probably not the reason.

I would guess that 11,328,987 is the exact cost of a particular build / mech.

Is there one that costs 9,828,987 CB? If so then it is an Atlas with the double heatsink upgrade. :)
