We all know why the Urban mech has 5 extra heat capacity: to handle its intense inner sexiness.

TBH: To make this more newbie friendly, and to bypass the need support sub 100 engines, they can ditch its 11th heat sink for a 100 rated engine. Breaking canon slightly to at least allow the skin and players to have the fun and even richer 'flavor' of the game as they like seems like a no-brainer.

The butthurt over this being a bad April fool's joke is getting a little out of hand, but enabling a large number of your players to have a nerdgasm cannot be understated. It also is a good gesture to the playerbase that you are being responsive to how they want the game to look like. (and not breaking the game)

rumor has it (as in i just made this up now) that the official title of this was meant to be "Urbanmech arrives on the battlefield!.. but the battle had already ended." ended up being cut due to being too long for the subject header.

cause, you know, stock urbies are slow.

It got used a lot in MW4. Granted, it's not going to win many games on it's own, but for friendly, for fun games, it's more fun than you seem to realize.

We're excited to announce the UrbanMech UM-R60! This little guy packs quite the little punch with 1 AC/10 and 1 Small Laser for popping off those Mechs you know are hiding in an urban area. With a top speed of 32.4 kph, you won't be expected to chase down those pesky Jenners. Finally!

The UrbanMech UM-R60 will be available from April 1st with a Premium Skin. This unique Mech is available to only the most loyal MechWarriors, including 2 variants and the additional Hero variant.

A new Hero Mech arrives on the battlefield! The UM-CUB "Urbie Curby" comes hot from the manufacturer with two rear mounted AC/20s for pummeling at close range. Grab a partner pilot to join the glory, this Mech has no need for an engine! Ask a lancemate to tow you around (Attach hitch with "E") or stay put at your base like a defensive turret.

Hey Guys I think this is an April fools joke
, come on with an engine speed of 32.4 km/h and No armor, LOL an atlas would be able run circles around this urban yet alone probably crush poor we guy under the Atlas BIG size 12 Boots.

Hats of to you PGI

got love it

First post ever and I'm not real sure why I decided this topic would be the one I post on...

I'm all for releasing things like this, not because they're any good; many people have already covered that.

I'm for it because once personal lobbies, private matches and the like come about, it will be fun to do games like "Everyone pilot urbanmechs" or "nothing but lrms". Essentially, player made game modes. =)

(Not that all lrms would be all that fun but its the principle that counts.)

I couldn't agree more. Some of the most fun that I've had playing this game has been in matches like these.

oh and immersion, we're not even close to faction specific mechplay, hell we're going to have clan mechs in IS ranks before the clans embed their invasion properly and you don't think locusts and awesomes etc break the team balance ratios? plz argue harder.

So...that's a reason to make immersion even MORE of a joke? That's an argument made only by someone who just wants the Urbie, period, and isn't willing to consider anyone else's opinion.

This would be like throwing a police cruiser into the Battle of the Bulge. WTF.

Despite the Urbanmech being one of the few things I'd be willing to bend canon on, the only way to pull that off would be to give it ferro-fibrous armor. Otherwise you're a half ton / small laser short.

Also once you change it's 'stock' engine rating to 100 you have to decide if it's engine cap will be 100, 140 or something else.

I don't see any reason to not give the Urbs something like two ballistics points in one side and six lasers in the other. Slow as crap and gimped to mostly 1.4 DHS, people couldn't really complain the Urbs is overpowered no matter how many hard-points PGI gave it.

I think you're confusing immersion and balance. Urbie would be good for immersion, and a drop in the bucket of balance.

Which is why Urbanmech would be perfect here since there is NOT a bunch of open-terrain!

Every place has tons of cover, even alpine peaks where one would expect to be worst, isn't that bad, its like a pop tart happy land.

The very worst place I could think of is caustic valley between sigma and theta D3...... And any mech let alone a urbie by itself out in the middle of that valley is dead.

Urbanmech would suck, with pilots who suck.

But pilot would not stay that way, they would eventually lose their cover-blindness.

Urbanmech is guaranteed to teach a person skill. Its a great mech. A fully customized Urbie would be a monsterous light.

It's not even that. Yes, the Urbanmech is slow and has low armor and very few hard points. But it would just be fun to trot around in. it would be fun to hold 12 vs. 12 drunk matches with nothing but them. I would enjoy the heck out of that and give me lots of laughs.

Darth Vader Pic

plenty of things are silly, ponies, plushies, harry potter but look where the money's at and pgi wannna make a joke out of it. jokes on them dude, unless they suddenly get the real urbies out there then they just slagged off potential customers.

seriously you do not go to texas and say guns are for gays as an april fools, likewise you don't go to a nerd fanbase and say their characters are only jokeworthy. the announcment stinks of being totally outof touch with the playerbase, like the ford company manager at a convention announcing mustangs are crap and no more, you say pgi haven't said no.... well when are they going to say yes to urbie? it's long overdue. firestarter? who was looking forward to that? nice to have but urbies more popular we need it, and they need hero sales better than huggin.

You should have included glittering skin vampires in that too because those movies were horrible and Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson are bad actors. Sorry if mentioned actors play this game and read it.

I think you are missing the crucial part of what actually makes the Urbie what it is. Ignore the cuteness for a moment and just focus on the design quirks:

1. A Light Mech that is so slow, it makes the Atlas look 'sporty'
2. It can pack guns that are more suited to Heavy and Assault Mechs
3. It's cheap as dirt

You can gloss over each of these quirks without being any wiser, but you cannot gloss over the sum of them. There simply is no other Mech like the Urban Mech. It is one of the few that punches way above its weight in its natural habitat.

Let's also not forget 360 rotation. Huge factor. That's what sells for me.

City fights would be a blast.

Love to see a city map with low hanging pedestrian passes/bridges and back alleys that only lights can traverse and tight roadways that are choke points for larger mechs; perfect Urbie beer map.

Another excellent reason to have them Solaris fighting. Urbie beer night at Solaris. Friday night free for all.

Come on guys! Get a Solaris map out there and the lobbies. Let's get some C-bill betting going!

ruining clans and IS interaction... as if urbie would make immersion worse than that! seriously you compare urban mechs to battletech like a WW1 tank to a modern day one. for sure urban mech was used only in urban terrain {name's a bit of a give away} but in BT you had choices on where and what you fielded to an exstent, by you're logic we should be able to choose the maps we go to instead of random drops... MW has it's limits on how much immersion it can offer, i'm really hoping the faction tab will at least give us 12v10 IS vs clans leaving the public queue to it's 10ton clan exception anything goes stuff. maybe mercs could travel the IS and you will be able to choose where you fight... yeah wishfull thinking. but why should one runt of a mech that does no harm to nobody be rejected so harshly? really why would urbie be out of place in the anything goes public queue? why would urbie be out of place in the private matches where you can choose to town fight? is it appropriate opinion to say no you can't have something even though it fits right into the game parameters? 3 varients and hero in timeline, mods to make it playable {only the engine needs work} how is it not appropriate? stock? how many stocks are appropriate for this game? how is urbie bad for MWO!?

plz argue harder.

AAAAHHHHH! Did I miss my chance to buy a golden Urbie? Did they only sell it on April 1st?

This is terrible! PGI needs to release the UrbanMech for everyone! As a key part of House Liao defensive strategy, I NEED THIS MECH.

House Liao assault: one UrbanMech on top of two other UrbanMechs. That gives the word 'recycling' a whole new meaning... ;)

Maybe PGI can introduce a new game mode whereas a match is limited by Mech cost. Set the max price of mech to something really low like an unbuffed non-ECM Commando/Raven/Locust. The story line could be a scouting raid on a backwater planet by a third tier rouge mech unit, starving outcast clanners or second rate pirate band vs a backwoods city militia using second hand mechs and police urbies. Have the Militia defend a base backed by a light turret grid for good measure. The base could be a small city, sensor outpost, mining camp, or even a remote drop ship port using our existing maps. That is the scenario they had in mind when they designed the Urbie.

i for one would love that game mode.
