Right. So I just took an Urbie spider out for a spin.

First match, two kills and zombied. Took down a Dire with the AC10 and a catapult with the small laser.

I am greatly amused and look forward to more matches in this manner.

Ay, it's good fun.
To this day, I still have that urbie spider in the thread on perm standby, and even on a complete strip, it stays loaded.

Looking forward to the real thing.

The Urbie demands a max engine rating of 200 !
No more.
No less.

I dunno, I'm leaning partial to the 165 cap - if only because there is no reason to buy that engine class! Why would an Urbie need to go faster than 98kph?!

Well, technically, 360° twist only means that it can go 360° around, then stop. People just usually associate that with the ability to continuously spin around, but if you consider all of the cabling in the waist of a robot, that may or may not be the actual case depending on how it is designed.

That's not intrinsically true... It is possible to make an electrical connection that can spin indefintely, via a number of concentric rings pressed against eachother to maintain continuous contact...

Granted, this would probably be untenable with the complex circuitry a battlemech must require to operate... But it is theoretically possible to have a mech spin like a top forever...

Perhaps it the signal transfers on the same magical teleportation system of feeding amunition from the legs to the arm. How do you get a 200 lb gauss slug through a knee, hip, torso rotation, nuclear reactor, shoulder, (sometimes elbow)? It's POSSIBLE, but good lord!

Actually, I suppose it could have a couple wireless transceivers...

You buy this mech but you get a real one on delivery. This way the shipping manifest shows Urbie and the dropship won't be shot down delivering the real prize.

Oh, hey, that's even neater, and simpler than the design I was thinking of. I know it's not science fiction. I just imagine thousands of wires running through the thing :P Power supply, and all the control circuitry for every piece of myomer, coolant valves, etc...

Go to smurfy.
Go to Spider.
Put in 180 Engine.
Receive answer.

In this case - Base max Speed w/ 180 rated engine = 97.2 kph, or 106.9 kph with speed tweak.

i ended up finding it in the general section thread. people complaining that it's too fast for an urbie AND too slow for a viable light

Not the same people :)

The trolls that don't want it to be viable complain it's "too fast" for an Urbie.
The try-hards that want it to be comp-grade viable complain it's "too slow" for that.

Those of us who just want an Urbie are happy :)
