Update: Various initiatives are being tested this week prior to then deciding when to best introduce them.
These include:
Orientation programme:
A preliminary training process that ensure that pilots are aware to unit concepts and tools aswell as ensuring that the basic pilot concepts or communications, weaponry and some piloting tactical awareness. This is not like a driving test such as a pass/fail exercise, but a supportive process to introduce pilots to life as a Dark Born member. It is intentionally combined to still encourage socially dropping with others whilst reviewing applied exercises and understanding with a Mentor to guide you.
Codex:
A system to record additional details regarding pilot preferences and social data. It also records pilot statitics from MWO using a parsing tool to record details in a database. Reports and other useful inidicators and perhaps pretty graphs will hopefully be provided to help pilots be more aware of their capabilities with new metrics to help analyse their use of various tech. It will also help with understanding pilots needs more readily and being able to make more informed strategical decisions about the unit.
Role Checker:
Ongoing testing to refine the qualities. This tool allows pilots in a team orientated format to quickly build Mechs into various standardised roles. It does not prescribe which Mech to use only the required critereon for the Mech to qualify in the role. Using helpful stats about the build in the process it also helps pilots build Mechs if piloting it as one of the designed roles. This is not a unit requirement for casual pilots or for fun drops where anything goes, this assistive tool is ideally helpful for more team orientated play so that Drop Commanders can have faith in what mechs can do without having to micro manage the builds of their pilots for organised teams. Though it can still help casual players with their Mech builds if they wish to use the tool in helping them identify role they may wish to play casually.
===
At the same time we are evaluating the units preferences for setting up some formal fun drops with various allies who have requested we drop with them for various purposes.
SILKS:
And something that I'm now toying with and evaluating for potential use is something known as "Silks".
This is intentionally going to be like an internal unit bartering and reward system a bit similar to air miles. Where various contributions and activities of benefit to the unit (e.g. recruiting, mentoring, trials, completing training modules etc) can allow you to be rewarded with Silks. These can then be exchanged between players for whatever reasons also.
When a player then reaches a set number of these silks he can them redeem that number for a Ultimate Time Card. (I will be providing these personally).
I have yet to work out the numbers for feasibility but the value of Silks in real terms will be quite low and these rewards will take some activity or contributions to reach to before a redemption can take place. But like air miles it is a slow loyalty system that helps to recognise the unit members contributions.
At the same time, I'm also contemplating come CW that Silks could also be rewarded as part of completing certain objectives or as significant contributions on the field in various ways. And as such would then have a slight bonus or performance related pay incentive to CW activities.
There "could" be lots of ways to apply the process of awarding Silks to be of benefit to the unit.
Combining both Codex and Silks aswell as other potential future use like inteligence data and other information as needs on the Units hosted MySQL database server I can now generate a whole host of additional tools and information to help pilots and the units admin, aswell as potentially generating extra game play content.
Watch the Darkness for more forthcoming illuminations about these developments.

I'm curious, what's people's least favorite aspect of clan society? What would make you cut and run off to join the bandits and outlaws?
I'd hate to be the guy that fails his trial of Blooding too. After spending your whole life getting ready to be a Mechwarrior it's easy to imagine not taking 'no' for an answer.
