I'm all for that! Real men don't need afterburners!

Thing is, the Locust would be more like the Drone I think.

Locusts are very fast, very nimble, with a small weapons loadout and low armour.
It's also incredibly fun to pilot.

If the above armed Crop Duster applies, then I can live with that. ;)

Don't bag on the Lolcusts. The 1V just needs an effective light ballistic option and the 3M is a decent lil hunter. Your team is really what defines it's usefulness.

I'll give the Locust a bit more credit, lets say one of these instead.

Mig 21...Old, tiny, quick but out dated and even though it is far from front line capable, it is still in many country's front line service.

It could still shoot down a better plane if piloted by a good pilot...but the odds are very much against it.

That seems fairer to me.

Yea, I always liked the look of that plane. I like the look of the Locust too so there is that LOL.

Well considering the wiki entry says this: "The Locust was built exclusively for reconnaissance" I'm not really sure what people expect.

The thing is just too light to fight other mechs and thats more than 90% of the game right now. Although with the recent LRM changes I think putting a few LRM5 on might not be so bad.

Mechs are more like tanks in various forms...

Also interesting tidbit on the Mig-21. Russia has an apparent upgrade package available for it known as the "Mig-21-97" variant, which includes an upgraded engine Klimov RD-33, which is the baseline engine used on Mig-29's, and includes a new radar (pulse-doppler radar), N010 Zhuk Radar, upgraded avionics, dual-screen HUD, helmet-mounted target designator, and advanced flight control. The upgraded equipment on the Mig-21 makes it comparable to Fourth Generation fighter aircraft like the Mig-29 and F-16.

So in comparison, a Mig-21 (upgraded variant) is like a Locust upgraded variant "LCT-6M" which is the fastest Locust that goes 226.8 km/h. As with any vehicle in BattleTech, they usually take an original variant or "old frame" and upgrade it as new tech becomes available.

No, I was talking about the movie Final Countdown. In it a US aircraft carrier somehow goes back in time to just before Pearl Harbor. Before they figure out that they went back in time a pair of F-14 Tomcats face off against a pair of Japanese Zeros and things did not end well for the Japanese pilots.

That is actually one of my favorite movies.

All this talk about movies like Final Countdown and fighters like the F16 remind me of the good 'ol movie Iron Eagle. I used to love that movie as a kid, but I have a feeing it wouldn't hold up well if I watched it today.

Locusts are a self-destructing mech, they can leg themselves jumping off a cliff. It is a horrible design for a 20T mech. MWO should have brought in the Wasp or the Hornet.

When the Locust first came out, I played my Streakboat exclusively to enjoy the easy kills and played this in the background:

Hornet maybe, Wasp, like the Stinger, is part of the Harmony Gold Copyright BS and will never be seen.

EDIT: that's odd, there was no video attached to the "Quote" I did. interesting.

What you wrote is factually incorrect. All of those mechs are in Project Phoenix and have redesigned appearances to allow for their use and to screw over Harmony Gold.

I've also had little to no problem with damaging my locusts through jumping off things.
What size cliff are we talking here?
