Yup. But sadly it might not constitute a skill, according to Roland! :D (I kid, I kid..... but only a little!)

It's why I detest the Poptart Meta. Not that I am entirely against the tactic (though I do find it patently boring, TBH), but when any one Meta dominates the game THAT heavily, it kills tactical flexibility and thinking. And sadly, you start seeing the brain dead trend in the forums which basically embrace the "you must have meta to counter meta". If that is true, the game balance is broken beyond words. And seldom have I seen that degree of disconnect here. What I do see is too many people who play not lose, instead of trying to win, too many people who worry too much about stats, too much timidity. Our Poptart overlords are not all powerful. The lemmings are just too gutless and mentally lazy to coordinate and challenge them.

I don't use the Meta. I used Missiles when I had a PoS Laptop with 9FpS average, I used a PPC and A Gauss on an Atlas before the Meta (when PPCs were called a joke) cause... its an Atlas! But I thumb my nose at teh meta, and I beat it my way. Cause to me... The Meta has mimicked Clan capabilities quite nicely if not a bit UP for my taste. But they were good practice for the coming Boogieman... That was defanged before I even had to be afraid of them...

So what you are saying is that I should only ever play assault mode and convince my side to exploit the hell out of turrets.

That is ultimately what is going to happen with this mode... people will realize that playing defense is inherently better than offense on this mode and do nothing but camp their side of the maps, within range of the turrets.

Exactly the reason PGI catered into the demand to have them. It leads to turtling, longer matches, much loooonger matches, and lowered Cbill earnings per hours while keeping a large element of the community obliviously happy. Win win for PGI.

Since the release of turrets, it seems like the clock running out is more common than cap wins were before their release ever were.

Sorry but if you think you can basecamp and win you will have a bad time.
Yesterday two groups tried that in Pug matches (both on Canyon Network, different bases each time). Both got crushed.

Why because the bases are pretty open, no place to hide on both sides, on most maps. You won't win that way.

Joe and I are both probably a little too long in the tooth to learn things like fear and common sense now! But that and our sheer cussed stubbornness is what will beat back the VatBrats anyhow!

My Stubbornness. My elemental pigheaded, stiff-necked Iron-pated, wonderful hradani stubbornness?

Why... Thank you for noticing!

Adapt dude.

You have the same opportunities available to you.

You could have just waited him out and won. You apparently chose to try to pry him out, and paid the price. He used the game mechanics, he won. Don't like it? Drop skirmish.

Me? I like having new problems to have to crack. Makes the game a lot less 1 dimensional and boring.

I only I'm not the one being the idiot trying to pot shot the last remaining enemy to death, dying on the turrets.

My major problem with the turrets is that it has no value added to the game, was a solution that created a larger problem than it fixed, and adds no play value to the game. If anything, it dumbs down the mode by removing strategies that were once viable and turning the mode into skirmish with much more restricted map sizes, due to the zone of death that is easy to camp in.

Actually killing a turret shouldn't you get more Cash and XP cause you get paid per point of damage and didn't I read Turrets have 100 armor... That is 2,100 C-bills per... Its a nice bonus.

It is map situational. Some maps it isn't viable while others it is much more so(River City, for example ).

You cant basecamp on river city with 12 mechs. There is not enough room, some of you will have to stay in the open and be visible from far away, heck you can already now see the others from your base.

It works when you are down to 2-3 men but with 12 you are stepping on each other's toes and hindering yourself in combat.

You forget how much coverage the turrets provide at River City.

Actually, many of us asked for turrets on Cap Modes, because they added layers. Looking for a fight only to have some little tu.rds run across and play CapWarrior (looking at you House Davion!) was far more boring, and constant an issue than turrets have been. Like I said. You don't like turrets, play Skirmish dude. It's the same TDM, just san's the bases. You want bases but not turrets? Conquest. We have 3 modes so far so that more people can choose to play the style that appeals to them.

I LIKE TURRETS.

So because you don't, I should have my options limited, when they in no way are eliminating yours?

Doesn't matter their coverage. There still isn't enough COVER to have your whole team base camp there. Also, believe it or not, but defensive/siege fights, while rare, also are a nice change o pace from brain dead TDM. Please don't tell me you want respawning added, toO?

I find the exact opposite. Right now opens up more Strategy, as before you were simply running variants of the same plan. You may feel tactically more limited, but that is a different story. The actual amount of "strategies" available in most maps, in Skirmish modes are pretty slim. And old Assault was just Skirmish with Base Cappers running rampant for the easy win. Totally within the conditions of victory, but bloody boring.

Assault now, like Conquest, open sup much more viable options than Skirmish.

Funny! before skirmish when I saw them in match, "well other team is capping". now when I see them in skirmish, "there is no bases, what are they doing here?"

Which is why people are worried about defending their based, right?

All the turrets did is allow for people to ignore the bases until the endgame, where the losing side typically runs to their base. There are no more plays to try to draw off enemy forces from the fight, you significantly choke the size of the smaller maps, and you outright advantage some sides on certain maps.

I wasn't a ninja capper but I did use the base to try to influence the battle.

For what it's worth, since they put turrets in I have only seen one 'base swap'. That has to be an improvement, right?

I wasn't a ninja capper but I did use the base to try to influence the battle.

And I have seen people STILL do so. I have been in matches were a Lance goes, kills the turrets and caps, because the rest of the OpFor assumes their base is safe inside their turrets. Took all of 3 minutes for them to do it, too. Might not be as easy on a tiny map like river city, but on Terra Therma, Alpine or the like?

See, again, there are strategic options there. Most people just refuse to think outside the box to find them, or are upset when you can't use the same answer on every map and every match. Just like some maps are horrible for some weapon systems, so too, some maps are horrible for some strategic options. The challenge now is to find the ones that do work.
