Bishop's Beast, Or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Embraced The Misery.

First and foremost, let's get this out of the way. I might be a Steiner, but I'm a Medium Jock at heart. Assaults..... they just move sooooooo slow! So compared to dedicated Assault Junkies, I am not claiming any level of skill.
But. Last sale, I broke down and bought the Misery. Mostly because I like how it looks. Tried all the Meta builds, and did OK, but never clicked. So, back in storage, dust collecting starts. Today I read xxBagheeraXX's thread in game play balance, and while not interested in the build or gauss, if did make me want to dust off the old thing and play with it. So off to Smurfy go I, to try to come up with a build that is "me".
And I think I found it. It's a (relatively.... it IS still a Stalker, but compared to my Banshees, it feels like a ballerina) mobile brawler build.
MISERY "Bishop's Beast"
Results? Well, it's still too new a build to say too much, but the screenshot from the End of Match on my first go is pretty promising.
Mind you, I crossed out the name of my team to avoid "name and shame" but they should be ashamed, as the team huddled behind the citadel and died. So these results were from PUGing on a bad team. I left the victors on display as they deserve the props, and because it also shows that there are several decent pilots on the OpFor, so it's not like I got my results on a n00b roll.
All in all, a good start, and more importantly, the mech actually FEELS fun to play.

I like your non-meta approach. I myself am a SRM-LPL lover.
BNC-3S
You sacrifce 6km/h for better armor, more heatsinks, 1 ton more AMS ammo and overall better survivability because its no stalker with fast-to-go side torsos.
But I still have to ask: Why 4 weapon groups? Its not that easy to control so many different weapons in combat. I often max out my mechs at 3.

so for the most battles i prefer the Assault Class Autocannon...like the sound...like the slow travel speed...and of course the big explosion at the reviving end. Last not least - I'm mostly the first in battle - and a LBX would be wasted - while a AC 20 will made a window in a targets armor... a window that could be used by your LBX with such effect.... and of course when the battle is done - i have a damage rating that is a shame compared to yours....
if you mind - here is my Mech to play the Long Wall of Steel

Neat build there! You basically get 2 shotguns with the LBX and the SRM-6+A, and you've got the dubstep large laser for even more armor-melting. Guess the 4 medium lasers are there to make optimal use of the energy hardpoints, so they're welcome in the build, too.
Builds that make use of Misery's missile port tend to be a bit more "sustainable", IMO, because if you don't use the missile port, someone will blow out your left torso and laugh as you lose your heaviest gun and half your lasers. Using the missile port prevents losing 66% or more of your firepower with one section loss.
So yeah, as a fellow Misery pilot, liking this.

The Banshee turns like a tu.rd. Literally. I have them all, and the only one I can't massively out maneuver in my Misery is the La Malinche. I want to like the Banshee, but between the epic ugliness, and the horrid mobility (try going up a hill, even with a 400 XL? Fuhgetaboutit!) It just isn't my cup of tea. The only one I think I will keep is the 3E (and La Malinche) because I like using the "Quad Chaingun" build in support when I drop premades with HARD.
I wish I liked the Banshee more, it has great hitboxes!

Thanks! Yeah, while the Mediums can spike the heat a bit, especially on Therma, they also add that nice little "extra" as they and the LPL are great for melting the armor, and my SRMs and LB-X get to eat the gooey goodness inside! Definitely the most fun I have had driving a Stalker!
I think your point about losing the LT is why the AC20 and Gauss just weren't clicking for me, as they require too much tonnage devoted, and like the Atlas, are almost always the first thing to go. But I think a Misery Wedge, with 2 of my guys, and 2 of Karl Streiger's build would be seriously ugly to encounter!

I'm pretty sure Katrina (or the throne in Tharkad if you prefer) is flanked by a pair of Griffins.... Assaults may be the stereotype, but Mediums are still the bread and butter of any outfit....
Like Tex above, I appreciate the non-meta approach and a non-meta mech can be very viable on the battlefield. I have found great success in my Misery as well.

And the Griffin is my favorite mech in the game, even if I do better with the Ember and my Shadowhawks.
Griff though is possibly the best looking thing Alex has done since the Hunchback and K2 (pre stupid mini-me PPC barrels!!!) and the agility is simply BEAST. Please don't let them screw up this one when it's Hero mech time!!!

As a personal note i'll try to reduce the LBX ammo and get an Ac/10... it may worth a try for several matches.
You never know when X or Y weapon feels better in a setup until you run it.

You can probably do it easiest by dropping a heat sink. It has decent heat dissipation (for a Stalker) IDK, I can't run a primary weapon with only two tons of ammo.

There will be another tyrannic ***** on that throne - that is flanked by a Royal Guard Defiance and a Skye Jaeger Fafnir - and when i read those lines my heart filled with pride.... only to read in the FM 3145 that those ***** disbanded the Skye Jaeger.... and so together with the shame of Skye...i did loose my grip in mailed fist - found another one - at the grip of a sharp and swift broad sword.
BTT:
I have tested a lot of Miserys: with missiles, without missiles.

this was one of those...the LRM 20 shaking gives you some spare seconds to line your AC 20....
also did test a slower build with more range:
PPC + LBX SRM and Laser
or the short range brawling Misery - the speed with elite skill feels great
Misery Crowbar
What i like most about the Stalker its a battering ram - and to use it for LRM support or PPC hill humping sniper feels completely wrong/ill.... its designed to crush the enemy below its hooves... i rather die (really often in that game) than use it other ways.

Haven't dropped in my Misery for a while, however I used to run almost identical build - just had AC20 instead of LBX. It was one of the easiest mechs to level and brilliant fun in the process. Here's a short video showing its awesomeness (and my poor aim)
I've also tried a few "meta" builds, but even though I'm Kurita and therefore love PPCs, these just aren't as enjoyable as the pure brawling machine above.

only better off if it fits your fighting style and you enjoy it. I've seen that build around since forever. I don't like it. If you do great, but I'm hardly "better off" running it.

simple.
Because this load out brawls better, and also is good for critting. I run it, because I have tried the cookie cutter builds (as mentioned in the OP) and didn't like them. I built this on a whim, and am loving it. If my LB and LPL are being effective how is that a waste of tonnage?

It's a solid performer for sure. Sorry about all the Steam links. I run MWO through Steam so I can save all my SS to the cloud.
Edit: In the 3rd pic, you can see Wotan in his Misery as well doing good damage.

I do still like the AC20 but I dont use the ASRM6 if I go that route.
I was using LBX, ASRM6, 3 MLs, and 2 LLs.

good mix with better ranged potential than me, though a little hotter. Definitely see the merit.
