I agree there should be more scouting/non-damage focused roles supported in the game.

I've seen a lot of lights die because they are used to hopping in the middle of a bunch of assaults with near impunity, so perhaps it will take light pilots a bit of time to adjust to reality.

Except Spiders.

This.

With no penalty for pinballing off larger mechs (knockdowns) many bad light pilots relied on bad netcode and only "think" they are good.

The best light pilots tended to be people who had low ping, and thus didn't really have much of a lag shield... Because having less lag also tended to make it easier for the light pilot to hit OTHER things while zipping all over the place.

Believe it or not, there actually are light pilots who can survive based purely on their own maneuverability and skill, and don't need lag to keep them alive.

Generally, I don't really have much trouble hitting light mechs if they are running decent pings.. unless they're actually a good light pilot.

Also this.

Im a poor light pilot, however I know better than to run into the middle of a pack of mechs and expect to win. I search out other lights and mediums to fight with, and just annoy the larger mechs with potshots. I also played back in CB when you did the wrong thing and ran into an assault and got knocked down, you deserved to get farmed.

Not sure what part of asking for more focus and effort into opening up the scouting role to be more viable is being misconstrued as asking for light mechs to be combat centric powerhouses. I waited on the Raven to be released specifically because I wanted to be support, I wanted to provide EW, but what we have in the game, the tools, the mechanics.. It is a joke.

Technically 4 Commandos would be a Steiner Recon Lance... And still not allowed by 3/3/3/3! :P

The lag shield is particularly effective against autocannons, PPCs, and SRMs, in my experience, which is usually from the giving end.

Although in a light I do seem to recall hearing a huge clunk as if something big hit me, but then taking no damage. That's pretty chill........

I do love when lights peak over a hill and stand still, then complain when they lose all there armor from someones alpha strike.

For the most part, I've stopped seeing lag shields. My connection speed is NOT great out in the semi-country of Indiana...but my ping is normally 39-120. Granted...it occasionally spikes up to 700 for a few seconds when someone lagtastic runs by me...which I hate.

Lag shield is getting less and less effective(thankfully). I've actually had a couple of deaths(at full speed no less) from Side Torso hits on my Raven since the patch.. which is only slightly easier to hit than the Jenner side torso. So the ability to land hits on a light mech is improving, which is why I want to see something done to further legitimize the non-ECM lights in roles that aren't centered around direct combat roles.

Add game modes with more interesting objectives that are OPTIONAL and effect the outcome of the game without being a way to end the game like we have now.

Make meaningful choices to take, hold, or abandon based on what you need to do and you will see capping being less of a merry go round for lights but strategically important based on what your team wants to do.

The simplistic game modes provide no incentives for pug based role warfare ... when you are on teamspeak though good recon is worth its weight in gold.
